Julia and I have just returned from an idylic week in Kefalonia. The food was really good....wonderful actually.
Nothing like as commercialised as us in Carvoeiro, all the restaurants are small and family owned. All preparing regional food.
My yardstick has to be that in a week, I never needed to resort to a steak once.

I know that Restaurant Hill is a far more comercially orientated , but with few exceptions such as Piri-piri and sort of Cataplana, the menus are international fast(ish) food....predictable, and in the main boring.

I wonder what would happen if some body had the nerve and forsight to serve pure regional Portuguese cooking.

I suspect he would be booked out night after night in the same way Happy's is.

Perhaps Bruce, but I fail to see the relation between Happy's and pure regional Portuguese cooking, I'm afraid.

They'd close after the first season.

People aren't interested in trying "traditional food", that's why all you get is pepper steak, pork chops, chicken piri piri, fish kebab, omelettes, pizza, burgers,chips, chips and more chips in every single resturant

I just feel that if anything lets Carvoeiro down, its the fact that Restaurant Hill, in the main, caters for the safe lowest common denominator.
A sound business decision I guess!

At least PJ is trying to dip his toe in the water at the Medina.

We have started looking further afield, in Silves and Porches so far, and have not been disappointed.

Yuo should have visited Kefalonia over 20 years ago, its like blackpool now compared to then.

You can be asured that in another 20 years it will probably look like the Algarve is now.
