Environmental effects in Algarve

I read about the new hotel-resorts being planned and built in the Algarve. Lot´s of money spent. I can´t help thinking if their is any environmental study being done in the respect of the future climate of South Portugal?

I do not mean the environmental effect of new hotels being built, I mean if the climate all in all in South of Portugal(as example) will be bearable within 10-20-30 years? Some people might argue Algarve will turn in to
a dry, too hot, drought-spelled schorched desertlandscape with the North African deserts moving in?

Are there any studies and is it taken into the big picture?

I love the Algarve, but I would lie if I would say I would invest in a house
without at least thinking of the above?

Where I live the authorities are doing a study to see how to replan low-land areas if and when the seawater will rise due to the melting ice of the Northpole etc, okay we´re very sober(read boring) Swede´s which I am the first to admit. But at the same time, you can´t help wonder how and
if these things are thought of when investing billions in new hotels/resorts.

There was over 40 degrees in central Europe this summer, I think the U.K
had nothing but rain. What if Algarve summer temperatures will rest at
35-45 degrees June to September in 10 years time? Is this considered
at all?

A most interesting question Viking but I don't pretend to be very knowledgable on this subject.

However, about a years or so ago there were comments about the Uk's future environment changes, in that our South coast of England would become like the Mediterranean in 10-20 years and so Brits would holiday at home...and also stated that places like Southern Spain, Greece etc would become unbearable with the heat?!
I suppose this could apply to Algarve but I believe the 'cool' Atlantic may possibly keep temps there bearable? But the 'water' situation could become a problem...unlike England this summer, when we had flood waters lapping at our door here!

I think that the answer to your questions is " NOT A LOT ".

If we in the west thought that we could take steps to have a positive effect to reduce global warming then I am sure that it would happen.

Hoever the uncontrolled industrial growth in China , India ( soon to be south America ) far exceeds anything we could do to alleviate matters.

Fewer cars, fewer airplane flights will be but a drop in a rising ocean.

When the UK Government continues to allow house building in flood plains and refuses to continue to provide sea defences to large swathes of the country, you have to wonder where their priorities lie?

I suspect that they aren't too interested in the long term picture, rather how to increase short term revenue and cut costs?
