Restaurants away from Carvoeiro

I know there are supposed to be two really good restaurants in Porches
has anyone been?
Also what about The Village Inn and is it Poppies?. It would be nice to know about good restaurants within a 10-15 minute drive of CVO, plus any really good ones in Silves (apart from Rui's)

The Cruz de Portugal in Silves was good for chicken. After hearing that four people paid €90

for lunch I wouldn't like to recomend it

Tricky try the Brasserie Rosal in Vale del Rei, we went there this summer for the first time even tho' we live really close to it. Had a lovely meal, good service, nice atmosphere and good food.

Also Brasserie Marina at the top of the road that goes down to Benagil.

"Mr Grillo" in Porches is excellent.
We have been going regularly for the past 3/4 years. Quality of food is superb and so is the service.

Really good food at O Alambique in Poço Barreto.
They have really well spaced out tables, so essential to book pretty much throughout the year and thats always a good sign !

Hi Tricky,
We have been to The Village Inn a few times and we love the atmosphere, food and ambience. We went rather late the first time, about 10.30 cos we were running very late and we had a great time. I had a really bad cold and they were plying me with alcoholic cold remedies, really do not remember much after that, went to sleep on the sofa in the restuarant.
Went mega early one evening cos of footie and we had a good time even though it was just us and two other ladies present. Mine host is a really lovely lady, cannot remember her name but she is lovely. The place is very eclectic and really worth a visit. All food cooked on the premise from scratch, have to wait for food to be cooked for your meal but at least that means you can play around with the extensive menu. All the different menu cards etc and on the boards etc have different choices so take plenty of time to choose. But with everyone, ones choice may not be anothers choice of place. It is one of our favourite places tho

In Porches- Lleo's used to be good when it was run by John, the man from the Met, but it has changed hands several times since then and I've heard it's not as good now.In the old fado house there was for a time a good restaurant run by the manager of Lanterna near Portimao (very sadly missed) but I think it's gone too now. On the other side of the main road from the village there was also a suprisingly upmarket restaurant which was an off-shoot from Vita Parc but I forget what it was called and it may have closed as well !

On the road to Monchique on the left is a place called O Portal Da Serra, very good for kebabs. I've only actually been there for organized lunches so I'm not sure about prices.

Another favorite is Restaurante de Querença ( you can't miss it it's the only one there!) in Querença, near Loulé. they're closed on Wednesday and you should really book because it gets very busy. Their specialities include kid stew, wild boar steaks, kebebs and chops, venison kebebs, cabidela which is a hen or cockrel stew.

We had lunch once (during the winter) at one of the beachbars in Praia Da Rocha, really good service and food. Large menu, hardly a cheese omelette or sardines in sight!!

Silves has a good fish restuarnt called A Casa Velha, it's near the castle, also gets very busy so booking would be sensible. It's slightly more expensive than most so is good for a special night, but worth a visit.

And if you're ever in Lisbon try the Adega São Roque at the top of the Escadaria do Duque in the São Roque area, excellent for "real" Portuguese food.

Ohh, I had a burger in Burger King today in Forum Algarve, so that's Faro. I kow everyone will go bleah, but evry so often...

We love Cafe Ingles in Silves for Sunday lunch. The food is OK, but we go mainly for the music, which is usually jazz. You do need to book.

Wow, thats a lot of food for thought

As for my out of the way recommendations, I love the fish restaurant next to the pier on Armona Island, and I remember having a lovely meal at a very busy fish restaurant overlooking the beach at Ameraco (!)
(even though we had our car towed away

) I wish I could remember the name of it. It was more of an awning than a brick building and it was white
