Health advice in English
Health advice in English
Can anyone recommend a female Doctor with good English in the Lagoa area? Is there anywhere we can go here that is similar to a Health Centre in Britain, I mean specifically in regard to cost, understanding the language and being able to choose the sex of your doctor? I believe there must be one somewhere, even if it does cost a bit for an appointment. The provision of a virtually stressless and caring health service is one thing I definitely miss from the UK!!

Unfortunately I have also used the hospital in Alvor on several occasions. You just turn up and flash your credit card and are seen more or less straight away. Doctors/Receptionists all speak English and I have seen both male and female Doctors. Paid 40 euros on my last visit and was in and out within half an hour with prescription. I think they provide an excellent service although at a price but I have in the past claimed on my travel insurance withot any problems. It is good to know when you have small children that you can turn up any time of day or night and see a Doctor without any problems.
I don't understand why this place doesn't seem to be much of a Health Centre to you.Avvie wrote:Thanks LB, but I think this Doctor the big Dutch guy, who for reasons I won't go into on the forum, I no longer wish to use. Also, doesn't seem much like a Health Centre as beknown to me apart from the fact that you can make an appointment in advance!
In this Health Centre you can find a General Practicioner, a Dermatologist, a Dentist and a Bowen Therapist, all qualified and of high standard.
thank you Ellie.Ellie wrote:I don't understand. Ive been to this doctor a couple of times and always been treated very well and been given good attention & medicines to put me right.
I just read this reaction and already posted a personal message to Avvie to hear what the problem is. Best regards and thanks again for your support. Dr.Ken Vieira
The following personal message was send to Avvie:
"This reaction made clear that there is a serious problem. To mention your experience (?) on this forum will not solve a thing. I invite you to come and speak it up or send a letter, because for over 25 years of practice in several countries my goal is to help people with their medical problems so they will feel well. This all done in a straight and honest way from both sides. I hope to hear from you
Best regards,

It wont solve a thing to go back over old ground. Best left unsaid. I will not be responding to any more messages.

To be fair, Avvie was looking for an alternative to the m.cvo Health Centre but didn't actually say that until I suggested the place. However, I totally agree that this is not the place for such a discussion. My suggestion would be for Avvie and Ken to meet up at the Cocktail Garden and sort it out over a beer. I have to say I disagree with copying and pasting a PM onto the forum.
That said, I hope I never need the services of Dr. Ken but I won't hesitate to knock on his door if I do.
