Summer in Carvoeiro

Post by Barry »

Not sure if this the right part of the forum, since I want the advice of permanent residents. We have a propery sitting in the sunshine in CVO and right now in Fairford it is pouring with rain. The weather had been very poor since we left CVO in early June. We have always assumed that we should "summer" in the UK, but are now rethinking that assumption. So how do you find July and August? Is it too hot and busy? Think I would rather shelter from the sun, rather that stare at the rain through the window.

Hi Barry

We have had the same idea stay here in the summer months and winter/sun oursleves the rest of the year in the Algarve, but you are right I'd rather be in the sun with the air con on feeling nicely cool and smug, although notice you are from the Cotswolds so have not had such good weather as us down here in East Anglia.

Hi, This is our first year as permies in Carvoeiro and everyone warned us that July and August would be hot and busy. Well we are near the end of August now and we have found it to be OK. :D There were a couple of days when our thermometer read 40 degrees but apart from that it has been bearable - and we have to work in it!! :D As for being busy, yes the village is busier but not to the extreme where you can't walk about without feeling closed in. Hope this is of some help :D

I have to say that this is my second August in Cvo and I have found it nowhere near as busy as it was last year. The popular restaurants are still very busy, but there does not seem to be as many people around as there were last year - and not as many cars either.

Gary and I have spent July in CVO and found it to be really hot, but I would sooner be in out Airco apartment watching the sun going down over the CVO hills than sitting here in Holland having had an equally washed out summer like those of you in UK :( . So go for it, think we will next year. As it is we are out 6th Sept for nearly 3 weeks and counting.

Thanks for the responses. We have to stay in UK this year, since we are selling our house, but we will install air-con over the winter and miss out on the British summer next year. May just pop back for a visit.

You would think with all the development going on around Carvoeiro the place would becoming busier. Maybe most of the new owners decided like we did to stay away during the middle of summer.
