Post by Vanessa »

I am just starting the process of buying a property in Portugal and wondered if anyone could recommend a Fiscal Rep?

Many thanks

Fiscal rep

Post by MALLYMAL »

When we bought 3 years ago, we appointed Portuguese solicitor to handle the purchase (as you would at home). I assumed having paid her 1 off fees that would be it, but she then became our fiscal rep "by default".

That's not to say we couldn't choose someone else now, but it helped set us up in the 1st place.

You certainly need a fiscal rep for "council tax" and (in our experience) even for things like setting up a contract for the gas/electric. They wouldn't arrange these until we'd completed, so it was all a bit last minute.

You're welcome to send a pm if you want to know our personal experiences (I'm no expert, but all pretty fresh in my mind).

Oh by the way, maddest, most exciting and best thing we ever did. Good luck!
