Airport Information update

Just received the following email from BAA which is self explanatory:-

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR AIRPORT USERS

Following Saturday's terrorist incident at Glasgow Airport,
additional security measures are in place at all BAA airports.
Dropping off and picking up in front of the airport is severely
restricted and passengers are warned that there may be significant
delays in reaching the terminal building by car. BAA strongly
recommends that you use the long stay car parks or travel to the
airport by public transport.

In addition, hand baggage restrictions implemented last year remain
in place. Just to remind you, passengers are only allowed to carry
ONE item of hand baggage. If you need to travel with liquids, they
must be in individual containers not greater than 100ml capacity.
They must be placed in one transparent re-sealable bag, no larger
than 20cm x 20cm (8" x 8"), and fit comfortably inside the bag so it
can be fastened closed.

We hope this information has been of use to you but please keep
checking the website for the very latest updates (links below). We
regret any inconvenience that these events have caused.

Is Luton Airport a BAA airport?

I remember Luton Airport when it was a grass strip!! The answer is no to being BAA, used to be the town council but I think maybe Spanish now.

For those travelling in the next few days:
I dropped my daughter off at Gatwick North this afternoon. There is a police checkpoint with armed police at the entrance but no real problems in dropping off at the usual place.

As we run an airport car parking service at Manchester Airport, we have experienced several problems. I would advise getting to the airport 15 minutes prior to the time you had planned and if you are expecting to be collected on your return be prepared to walk to different terminals to collect your car or lift.

Regarding what we can take on board,
Im going to need a walking stick ....are you allowed to take one on the plane or do you have to pack it in your suitcase?
or is that a daft question?

My wife takes her folding metal stick without any problem. But Security has taken her to one side, used wand scanners up and down her calipers and body searched her by that time.

I'd advise the airline that you need a walking stick beforehand. Easyjet has an on-line facility that you can use.

THanks for that Laser..Ill get in touch about it and have a look around for foldup walking stick(I only have wooden ones)

Does your wife negotiate the stairs up and down from plane okay? I have problem raising my left leg too high..must confess Im feeling a little worried.My condition has worsened since last hols. Im hoping stronger medication will help me.

She manages the stairs ok. Normally, there's a slow queue so it's not a problem. I saw somewhere doing a good deal on folding sticks, might have been Wilkinsons.

On a flight back from Faro earlier this year a couple were in heated discussion with officials at security.

They wanted to take their collapsible Ski pole type walking sticks through
and were not being allowed to.

Given that these are metal and have have a sharp metal tip I could see that security had a point ( no pun intended ).

Having seen travellers still trying to get through with liquids etc can understand why the rules are enforced.

Who are you flying with Ellie? Why not send their Customer Services and email asking. When are you going?

With EasyJet Laser..yes Ill do as you suggest and email them.......I fly out Sept 4th from Stansted.

Ellie, my hubby had an accident early this year and for the time being he has to walk on 2 crutches, he cannt walk far as he is in great pain. So when we were in Cvo in may we let British Airways know what his problem now was since booking the flight last year and they were absolutely great! We flew from Edinburgh to Gatwick and from there onto Faro. We were treated like royalty, helped on and off all flights by wheelchair. Couldnt praise British Airways enough! And the crutches went on board with us!
