Having lived and eatern around Spilsby, I can understand why you may have a much more forgiving attitude to Boteca, Ellie.
You may need to get out more...Boston....Horncastle...........

Ill have you know theres a nice Italian in Spilsby (and his foods not bad either

)
But you are right in one way..Im a simple girl at heart when it comes to food, as long as its tasty ( and wine helps a lot doesn't it?

)..I only really enjoy it when I have good company.
Anyway, whats wrong with a cheese sarnie and peach juice,whilst sitting on a rock,overlooking the Atlantic?

They're still there Bruce but (wait for it.....) we have another chippy, pizza takeaway, curry house, Chinese, posh teashop and of course..the Italian

I will definitely investigate O Boteco when Im out Sept. Ill have a meal there and get back to you on what its like!
(But Ill take a sandwich in case its inedible

Dont mean to bring this up again. but recently had friends who 'forgot' that we told them not go and because of the view they thought it would be nice. It was awful. Apparently they had starters and main courses (too horrible to describe) and one bottle of wine for 65 euros ) for two)
They had had a fantastic meal the night before at Vila nova for the same price for three courses for three people including wine and drinks before and after for the same price.

Hiya, When we were over last in April this year, horrid weather I may add, I stopped under the alfresco dining area in the rain & sort of mentioned a coffee would be nice. Funny nothing arrived, no real enthusism from the staff who just looked glum on the wet afternoon 2ish time. So when the rain stopped . I left, went into the square & had a lovely coffee at the tapas bar, luv it there.

Perhaps a group of us should see if Botega is up 4 sale, we could use it as a CVO club members place. Fantastic views, at least we could have the food we liked.

Good idea - and I've got a feeling that with members running it we could produce fantastic food that would put this place on the map. BobT's paella for a start, Roy4eyes' sausage extravaganza, Kathy's sushi and calimari.....

As long as I have lived here the old Boteco has never been any good. I think it was owned by Solferias Hotel at one time. Don't know if that is still the case.

I looked in there out of curiosity on Tuesday night, almost empty.

Good idea to take it over....just so long as Ellie doesnt turn it into a sandwich bar

Ellie makes a great "ruby" and Hub is famous for his chips.When I was last there many years ago, the cooks in the kitchen were VERY old - maybe they have been replaced and that explains the difference.

OK all and sundry, listen up. I have been visiting CVO since the mid90´s and Boteco has always been a favourite of mine so these comments have concerned me as I have always had good food there. So as I have been here for the last 2 weeks I have done a small experiment. My daughter and her boyfriend (who is a CVO virgin) went there last week. He said the Portuguese steak he has was the best he has tasted ( against Martins, Casa Algarvia etc) as did my daughter. So we all went last night. My wife and I had Chateaubriand, the boy has the P Steak again and my daughter just an omlette. My food was cooked to perfection and so were the other meals. The servoce was top-notch - the waiters friendly and we had a laugh with them (some have been there for years and recognised us), and the Irish coffee nice and strong. Good meal, great views, great service - just as always. I don´t understand where this bad reputation is coming from - just tell the waiters how you want your meal cooked and it will be cooked that way. I find that in all CVO restaurants that if you engage with the staff they are friendly and courteous and your meal is usually pretty good.

There is also a compliants book, so if you have a bad meal, put your comments in there as well as in the Forum!

We used to go there a lot when I was younger (much younger). So that was probably in the 80's. The food was always nice, it was busy and the service was good.

However, my parents returned there a couple of times this decade and were seriously disappointed.

Like most of your posts, the service wasn't good and the food mediocre.

I am totally for buying the place from the owners!! I will add to our growing menu my prawns piri piri, prawn and pumpkin curry, beef strogonoff and tomato & bacon soup.
