You can park on Car park 1 which is on the left as you approach the terminal. Can't remember exactly how much it costs but no more than a couple of euro's for an hour. You pay at the machine outside the terminal or there is one on the car park.

Thanks for that, sounds like I won't have to take out a second mortgage to park like UK airport car parks!

Take a look at this link and you can see what you have to pay at P1 (just opposite the arrival/departure hall): http://www.emparque.pt/cache/bin/XPQ9hO ... _3VZKU.pdf

A few weeks ago I had to collect my partner's son from the airport alone and used the short stay P1 car park. Just take a ticket at at the barrier, park your car and on returning to the car park pop your ticket into the pay machines a pay a very small sum. I think I was there 30 minutes and it cost 1 Euro. Keep your ticket and pop it into the machine at the exit barrier. Very easy and light on the pocket :D

I've never tried this but P4 must have a means of identifying hire cars and letting them in and out. So if you collected your hire car from P4 presumably you can use that car park FOC.

Have used P4 when collecting friends during our hoildays, no problems providing the system does not play up.

Each car hire company has a certain number of spaces in P4 which the computor recognises via the no plate.
Great when it works but sometimes it does not and that is when you see long queues and cars trying to turn round in the entrance to P4.
Has happended to us 3 times.

On that rare occasion when I am actually early meeting people at the airport I wait in the car at the filling station near the airport entrance (it has about 1/2 doz parking places) When the people I am meeting have collected their bags they call me. I drive the 200mtrs to the pickup point and usually arrive as they walk out the door

Shhhh Al Garb,

I have used that trick on many occasions, and the timing just works perfectly, but don't tell too many poeple, otherwise we won't be able to find a park at the petrol station :P

By the way, the coffee is also excellent there and cheaper than the airport cafe !

You can always drive down to the beach, get a coffee or beer at one of the stalls and look at the ocean.
