Oil central heating

We spend an increasing amount of time at our villa during the winter. It struck me on our last visit, that in the UK the usual next alternative to gas for central heating is oil. Anyone know why this has not taken off in the Algarve? Would love have some rads around the place on a winters evening.

WE have had a electric unnderfloor system installed in our villa nd friends have gone for an oil fired ( water ) sytem in theirs.

It will be interesting to see whcih is the most efficient and cost effective,

The oilfired boiler radiator system was not offered.

A "wet" central heating system is more normally run on propane or LPG in Portugal. A tank is usually installed in the garden and bulk delivery by tanker as it would be for oil in the UK.

Just mean the traditional radiator system rather than, say, night storage heaters which are used in some parts of Algarve. EDP has a cheaper overnight tarrif.

Assumed that is what it was, but was confused by tbbr's comment that an oil fired (water) system was offered, but not an oil fired boiler system. I guess the only other question is availability of heating oil and it's cost.

THe oil fired system I referred to is the normal method of underfloor pipes through which heated water is passed.

The boiler is oil fired.

We had an oil fired central heating system put in when we re did our house, just like UK with radiators in every room and an oil tank which will hold 2000ltrs of oil, boiler which we have in the utility room off the side of the house.

We have found it to be wonderful, we can leave the timer on to heat the house every morning for a few hours and again in the evening while we are not there during the autumn, winter and spring. It has stopped any damp or 'musty' smell you get when a house is shut up for the winter (I do leave a small window which is barred and three stories up, open to help with air flow) It is lovely when we do get out during the winter to open up a lovely warm house.

We have had no problems with the system only a couple of glitches with the boiler which were soon put right.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear

Would you mind sending me a pm with details of suppliers for the system and oil supply. It maybe a while before we consider carrying out the work, but I would love to have the information on file.
