Residents and Golf

Post by TerryC »

When weighing up the pros and cons of buying a property in the Algarve and particularly CVO I have to consider the cost of a round of Golf. As far as I can tell the cost of a round in the Western Alarve is between 75 and 125 euros...or even more. I know the courses are fantastic but for someone like me who likes to play at least twice a week it is prohibitive. Apart from buying a property on the course with the concessions that that may bring is there any way that the costs can be reduced?

Have never paid the rates you quote, there are always deals avalable, ie twilight golf at Gramacho and Pinta under 30 euros.
Golf for Greys etc.

It really pays to shop around.

I am sure the 5 courses at Vilamoura are less than that. I will let you know after I have been there tomorrow.

I've read that, generally, the courses are much cheaper out of the main holiday season i.e. September thro' March which is ideal since it is that bit cooler with less tourists.

Chin up...! :)

Nov to end jan are the best value periods. Prices Rise significantly on 1st Feb for some reason.

There is no need to go the the " golf " factory that is Villamoura.
Overcrowded and over priced.
Check out the courses in the west or east, better value and just as good.

Ant - sorry, but you have got it in reverse!

The courses are absolutely packed in Feb-April because that is the time when golf weather in the UK is a bit hit and miss so a lot of golf groups head for the Algarve - similarly in October and November, hence these are the most expensive months to play and also the hardest to get a tee time.

Conversely, in the summer it is sometimes almost too hot for golf, and you can have the course to yourself - hence prices fall and you can get two players and a buggy at Pestana for 90 Euros - which is well under half the price of a UK course of the same quality.

Hi Terry C

I have a property in the Carvoeiro area and can tell you that the green fees in the Western Algarve ( ie west of Vilamoura etc) are considerably cheaper with about 90 Euros being the tops. Having said that I usually pay no more than 40/50 Euros per round as there are various groups that you can join where good discounts have been arranged.

Once you get in the know you will find out where these are and who to contact.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

All being well we will start to spend more time in CVO from next year.

Would appreciate details of groups , societies etc as could not miss our fix of weekly golf.

I am assuming you are talking about 18 holes.
At the 5 Vilamoura courses I have this information:

Best Available Rates
from the 5th until the 16th of April 2007
Play 18 holes for the price of 9 holes!

Tee times from 13h30

Oceânico Old Course - €72,50
Oceânico Pinhal Course - €47,50
Oceânico Laguna Course - €42,50
Oceânico Millennium Course - €50,00
Oceânico Victoria Course - €100,00

But generally the prices are more than that. Personally I think these are very nice courses and amongst the best in the Algarve.
