So your saying that a resaurant owner on, say a meal for two that comes to 70.00 euros can't afford to pay 1.75 euros commission...when the tip most people leave is never under 5 euros???Rob F wrote:Not the costs? hmmm.. I wonder. Let's say a quality restaurant has a yearly t/o of around € 300.000. If credit cards are excepted, experience learns that at least 50% of the clients will use them. So that would be some 150.000 charged with 2,5% = € 3.750,- Add up the € 24 monthly fee and the total reaches around € 4.000,- per annum. Serious money would not you say?bife73 wrote:Hello all.... I've just had a pos credit card machine fitted in my shop (no I'm not a restaurant owner). It cost 165.00 euros + VAT to fit, there is also 24 euros per month rental fee.....and of course 2.5% commission to pay....NOT 5% as you are told by the restaurant owners.
So is it really the costs??

Or is it that when you pay by card the taxman can trace the money, and therefore the restaurant has to pay tax!! Restaurant VAT 15%....(I think).
So when you pay cash mr tax man doesn't need to know

» I did not say that did I? I was only trying to show how this all adds up on a yearly bases. I cannot judge whether an owner can afford that, can you? «

» In most restaurants and bars the tip is set aside and divided later by all of the staff (both serving and kitchen staff) «

» It is 12% actually, but I won't be surprised if this will raise in the near future «
