First time in Portugal and which accomodation to prefer?

Hi,

We are planning to visit Carvoeiro and Portugal itself for the first time in June 2007. Right now I am looking for a nice accomodation. As we are travelling with our baby, we would prefer a more private accomodation, with a big terrace and a sea view and it has to have a pool nearby to cool off, when it gets too hot. Also the accomodation should be close to the beach and town center.

I have made several online enquiries and now there are left two possibilities: Algar Seco Parque or Rocha Brava.

As I haven't been to any of them, so I am only relying on the webpage. I was hoping that someone can point me the advantages or disadvantages there might be. Are they both in the center? Which one is more crowded? Which one has more beutiful garens and terraces? The pirce class is fairly similar.

Algar seco has beautiful views and is close to the centre. Rocha Brava is also a nice complex, but is a taxi ride to and from the town. You can walk the distance but maybe not with a little one....

Rocha Brava is a great complex but it is at least a 30 minute walk to the village centre. Algar Seco is nearer the town and has fantastic sea views. I would think that would be more suitable with you having a little one. Hope you enjoy your holiday wherever you stay.

We will be at Rocha Brava next week!!!

We have always stayed at Monte Dourado, and I must say they are the best apartments we have ever stayed in. You can find details of this complex on this site.The only problem you may find is the walk home as it is up hill, but apart from the walk they are wonderful.

Agree Karen..I always stay at Monte Dourado too

But you can get a M.D. apart 'on the flat' as I do. I have some probs walking uphill now so I stay in apart. in the block on the 'out'road and barely a few mins walk to sea front...also lotsa cafes/restaurants to choose from nearby.....its just opposite the little pottery market (with entrance on both sides).
So a nice easy walk to the square & the beach and places to eat! and no hills to climb,

We stayed in an MD apartment opposite the pottery last year. Fantastic accommodation with everything within easy reach and if we didn't want to venture far we had a very large terrace for sunbathing off one bedroom and a small balcony off the other. There is also a small but adequate swimming pool for residents to use. We loved it. Also the apartments have lifts so no stairs to struggle with.

Think u would like it at MD. Fantastic real market 4 food very close 2 it, whee u can get the most beautiful fresh fruit, veg, meat, fish, and bakery. Infact almost all ur needs are catered 4 there. Ideal 4 a stay at MD.The pools are good & have a babies pool alongside the bigger one.
The trek uphill is not 2 bad. Good 4 the legs.Wherever enjoy ur stay

Yeah, Id forgotten about the lift Hoppies!

I find this part of MD very convenient and Im sure it would be for anyone who has a disability or for the elderly,or those with kiddies in buggies etc and the aparts are very nice indeed.
