Internet in Portugal AND the UK

Post by Avvie »

We have Sapo ADSL and phone connection here in Carvoeiro, where we live just now. We will shortly be going back to the UK for some months and wondered if we could still use the Sapo connection to access internet from the UK? Or, would it be better to terminate PT and Sapo while we are away and re-connect when we come back? We do have Wifi on the laptop, but don't know if we will be in an area where we can use this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You'll still be able to use your SAPO email address and get to your webmail on-line, but to connect to the internet itself, no, you'll have to connect using another supplier in the UK or wherever. Your bigger problem may be finding a supplier in the UK to give you a short term connection. Usual practice is to sign you up for a 12 month minimum contract. The wi-fi on your laptop may be one answer. You'll be extremely lucky to find any property that offers this, and you'll probably have to go down to your local Starbucks or similar, and sit there paying for the Internet by the minute and drinking very expensive coffee.

Hope that doesn't complicate the answer.

You can get PAYG from Orange with no problem. Trouble it is not broadband so it's not fast. Or maybe you have a neighbour with wireless who hasn't set any security. Lots of them around still. That's the cheapest solution.
