Congratulations to the proud mother So the wolfies are in a state of depression hey - I would love to be a fly on the wall in yr. place when the kitties start climbing up legs, jumping up curtains etc. in a few weeks time The dogs will soon liven up

Our cat had 4 kittens many years ago and it was very good practice for when I had my human variety a few years later Lots of fun, mess, litter training - wot a nightmare! disobedience (mother quite often clipped them round the ears with her paws, not to mention deliberately ignoring them when she wanted some rest and not play - take note all those who think children shouldnt get a tap now and again for dangerous, life threatening behaviour)

Congratulations Gerry-- how big is your menagerie now then --let me see---2 wolfhounds--3 pussies--- 5 kittens --and a springer too ? 11 right?
If I were nearer Id gladly buy one of those kittys --sons driving me mad for one--but itll have to be a "Tom" --is there one amongst the 5?
The wolfhound thats depressed -is it a bitch? Perhaps shes just gone all broody.
Your springer sounds lovely though --ahh a sweet granny -you'll have to buy her a bonnet!
Isabeland David ! I put wrong author on book called "Algarve" its by David Wright and Patrick Swift---think youd enjoy it--I have autographed copy by Patrick Swift signed in Porches, Jan 1978. Found it in my Large book collection ,when I opened bookshop in Silves.
Bet you enjoyed it all really though didnt you Trish? Think its easier with the cats than kids,even though they "climb" curtains and "scratch" the chair legs-they do "eventually" become independent and at an earlier age -- whereas kids? They canbe like boomerangs --and keep coming back!

Autum finally arrived this morning!!!Just get outside about 9.30/10.00 and smell the air, pure coconut!!!! I love this time of year, at the end of this month is the big Feira de Todos os Santos (all saints fair) or Feira de dois meses(two months fair) because it starts in October and finishes in November, lets hope the weather holds for them!

Then it's the Feira de São Martinho in Portimão on the 11th of November, Dia do São Martinho. When you taste the new wine, eat chestnuts and grilled febras and have a jolly good time!!

The legend of São Martinho goes like this, a beggar man with very little clothing was walking along the road in the pouring rain, with the cold wind whistling through his thin clothes. São Martinho ( who was probably just Martin then!) rode by on his horse saw the poor freezing wet man, ripped his cloak in two pieces with his sword and gave part to the beggarman to keep warm and dry. All of a sudden the sun came out and it was warm and everything began to dry. Since then the warm weather (that we sometimes get in November) is called O verão do São Martinho (Saint Martins summer). It is during this time that figs and other fruit are dried, nice little sory don't you think?

Love the story ,reminds you that for every b.....d out there theres thousands of diamonds,must tell you about buying the villa sometime.Anyway can,t belive so much time has passed since the kittens,not to much luck with them i,m afraid,found two of them face down in the "pond", another dissappered .When they were about three weeks old the other queen got killed on the road poor thing,trouble was she,d given birth 2 or 3 days earlier took me a couple of days to find them but they were way to young and never made it.So that left us two queens ,one of which was the mother of the famous five,of which we still had two.So off we went to portugal for a week.Arrived back to find the two kittens had joined the ranks of the dissappered,and two dammed smug looking wolfhounds which i,m now thinking of calling ..papa doc and pol pot,mind you theres no proof.meanwhile we got 3 goldfish which seem to be immortal, even the cats have given upAnd now my sister in dublin want,s me to take back the tortise that i got 32 years ago,she took her in when my mam died and the family home was sold but now she reckons the worry and stress of minding her is killing her.
so thats about the size of it for now, apart from the magpie,it seems to have adopted us for the last 3 weeks and the dogs love it ,mind you the cats may have other ideas,ah sure we,ll see how long it lasts.
Did i tell you about the irish turkey.........ah god love him; he,s looking forward to christmas

It's not coconut, or almonds - when the wind is blowing in a certain direction the smell comes from the cork factory near Poco Barreto!
