We got two pairs of curtains made by Swatches and are pleased with them. All done and dusted within 7 days.

I might be able to help! Please take a look at my posting on the general carvoeiro titled: interior decorating and furnishings... don't be alarmed, i do not charge "professional" prices.....

Mon
Have curtains that I would like made into roman blinds is this something you could do and if so can you let me have an idea of pricing for say 100cm width by 168 length (curtains are cotton and already lined and headed so would require a bit of work.

Many thanks

Shopping experience

Post by Dina »

Hi everybody,
I started the topic of linen shops and, I must say that, after 2 trips to the Algarve I have nearly finished furnishing our house.
I don't know if this is of any help to anyone in future but I bought all my stuff from the suppliers stated below and they were all good, reliable, helpfull and we are delighted with their service and their products:
Furniture - Moveis Malheiro - Portimao to Monchique road- A lot of choice and if they do not have what you want they can make it for you! We saw a round solid dinning table on the internet, I gave Paulo (one of the owners) it's photograph and they made it exactly how I wanted, we also designed a TV table and, yes it is true, they made it exactly to our spec. Fabulous, nothing was impossible for them. Any design, material, colour.
Antiques - Silves - A small shop opposite the suckling pig restaurant. Run by a portuguese couple, Sr. Sabino (the owner) a very pleasant gentleman. Not cheap but, if you find something you like, try and haggle. A lot of fun and you leave feeling you had a bargain. We bought three pieces of furniture from them. Not to be confused with the antiques shop that is close to the pharmacy. That one was allways closed.
Curtains - Silves - Decoradora Mourinha - Excellent service, very helpfull. Again, not the cheapest but they came and collected all our pelmets, and delivered them re-upholstered within a week. We bought all the curtains for our house there. Extremelly reliable.
Linen - Bedspreads - Alvor - Excellent choice, extremelly friendly and helpfull, Linda and Pat (the owners) have been a delight to deal with. Nothing is impossible. We ordered our linen and it was there to be collected as promised.
We were at our wits end until we found these shops. They were all superb. I can not praise them enough.
I also had some building work done and some gates built. If anyone needs contacts (the people that worked for us were all very reliable) just ask.
Thanks everyone! :D

Gates

Post by Dina »

A Portuguese gentleman called Sr Jose Bento. Unfortunately, he does not speak English very well but I am certain that he would be able to help you. He made the gates as per our instruction, had an extremelly good stonemason for the pilars (Sr Vitorino), and a very good electrician (Sr Bruno). If you have a difficult driveway, like us, you would need to specify to the smallest detail, and supervise all the way. The result is very good. If you wish I could pass your contact to him.

We are looking to get continental quilts and covers. does the place in Alvor have such things. When we are out in the winter the evenings can get really cold. Do they have a website or where in Alvor so when I'm out in Sept I can take a look around.
thanks in advance

There are two very good shops in Old town Albufeira.

We wait for the sales and then stock up with towels etc fo our rental.

One of the more reliable scources of duvet covers to fit Portuguese Duvets ( bigger than UK sizes ).
