Does anybody know anything about 2x golf courses that have, apparently, been approved in the Albandeira area Vale de Engenho?

Not sure that this will help much but.....

When I was viewing properties to buy earlier this year, someone mentioned to me that there was a possibility of a golf course being built along the cliffs at Albandeira.

The area I was looking at was Caramujeira/Albandeira so it was of particular interest. I play golf but didn't want this bit of coast line spoilt as these are my favourite beaches in my favourite area.

I tried to find out more information informally but didn't succeed - I was told the Russians were buying up the coastline, that it would never be agreed etc etc

Having finally exchanged contracts on a property at Caramujeira this week (after 8 months) this is still of great interest to me.

Thanks ceh. That's basically the same story we got. All very ambiguous. We bought our place in Caramujeira in July this year and raised many issues with the town council about development of this particular area.

In fact, the whole area has been reclassified as "tourist development". We were assured by the town council (and I went with our solicitor to record the meeting) that any developments would be limited to 2 storeys and be very low density (i.e. villas).

Of course it is disappointing from an environmental point of view to lose this area of special interest (ecological and agricultural) but that is what the powers that be have decided. I would much rather have a golf course than high density apartment blocks and hotels. At least golf courses would preserve (enhance?) the countryside to some degree?

I agree with you Ant1969. I weighed it up at the time of making the offer and decided that there would still be green spaces etc

I was suspicious when I saw the improved road to Porches (on the road from the International School) as I suspect that will be the access. for development.

We'll have to see but can enjoy the countryside in the meantime.

I think you will find the whole coast in the area from Benagil through Albandeira and beyond is earmarked for hotel and villa development including golf courses.

Yes, I think that would appear to be the case. There are, apparently, some controls in place regarding proximity to the coast line and height of buildings but the general area is earmarked as 'tourist development'.

On a different note, Biffa, I was interested to see your website (I have previously come across it on CVO.com) and would possibly be interested in a consultation in the early part of next year. Perhaps I should pm you?

Two years ago contacted a builder in CVO ( large company English staff ) to be told that they were not taking on any more small projects as they were involved in a NEW cliffside prestige development including a golf course, 5 star hotel etc.

Could this be the one. ??

Don't know... It's called "something? Spa" and looks like it could be a hotel although its no more than 2 storeys high. It's certainly right on the cliff and is just before the car park for Albandeira beach (down the little single lane road). It looks like quite a nice place. I'm out there is January so I'll check it out then.
