afpop and insurance
I understand that joining afpop gets you a discount on insurance with medal.
Is the discount liable to cover the cost of joining afpop?

I have just searched the forum, which I should have done before asking anyway.
Somebody said they had saved half the house insurance cost, which would presumably make it worthwhile. There are some pretty negative comments too.
The problem with the afpop site is that you seem to have to join to see what you get when you join, if you see what I mean. So I don't know if I would find the other stuff of any use at all.

Insurance
Insurance in Portugal provided by Portuguese insurers needs to be carefully looked at. They do tend to sell you more or less anything without much advice and it is easy to end up under insured.
One point is earthquake cover - I know we all hope it won't happen but we do get quite frequent shocks here and it is not uncommon for swimming pool and terrace cracking and other damage to occur. Generally Portuguese insurers have a high percentage based excess clause on this which could mean you having to fork out a lot of money on a large claim.
Unless you are ok in Portuguese try to find a firm with an English translated policy document.

Insurance
I have used Intasure, an English company underwritten by Norwich Union. I thought the premium was reasonable for my cirumstances (about £10 per month), the policy arrived in both English and Portuguese and also covers earthquakes.
