Just a warning, we had bags, phones, passposts, purses, etc. stolen from our car yesterday. We were parked in the Plus carpark and had stupidly thought it safe to quickly "pop in" for a bottle of wine, leaving our bags in the locked car. When we went to the GNR to report it there were another 3 couples there, who had had the same problem, so take care out there!
PS, does anyone know how to have our phones blocked -so the theives won't benefit?

We use portuguese vodafone as service providers and the phones were Motorolas.

Thanks for the warning, I usually have 2 great, hairy beasts in the back of my car, t'would be a brave thief to stick his/her hand or head in there, but sometimes I have to leave them at home so will be extra careful about leaving valuables in the car. Shame isn't it.

On a more serious note Avvie,how did they get in your car,was it daylight??
We had a boys blue mountain bike pinched from outside our backdoor last week.Anybody seen any kids with early xmas pressies in the VDM area?

Ellie, yes, Vodafone were really helpful, gave us new sims, moved our existing credit onto them, got our old numbers back for us - really good. They DID manage to block our stolen phones too - HURRAH! Makes me feel a bit better, not as good as drawing blood, but a bit!

HP, yes it was 5.15 and still light. They used some kind of a master key in the driver's door. We are now unable to lock it using the key, only the remote works.

Oh, and if you keep your eyes open, many very drinkable wines can be found in Plus, and much cheaper than in the village or the dreaded Intermarche!!

Now all we have to do is have our passports renewed (142 euros each), replace all lost cards, pay the charges for that, buy new specs, new phones etc etc - what a hassle. Will certainly think twice before being silly enough to leave my bag in the car again.

A friend of mine was robbed recently in the Intermarche car park. As she put her shopping down to open the car boot thieves stole her handbag and ran off. Apparently this has happened a few times there so it obviously pays to keep your guard up when shopping these days.

With this sort of loss the hassle of replacing documents and cards generally outweighs any pure monetary loss.

WE recently had our apartment broken into.
Despite warnings and advice to always ensure that all doors, windows and shutters were locked before going out our guests had left the shutters open and it only took seconds for the ***** to get in.
Sadly the days are gone when we could leave anything of value in a car or not leave home without first turning into fort knox.

Thieves rely on a moment loss of attention and with the end of the tourist season there will be many out of work looking for easy money.

By the way on our complex last year who was it thought were the culprits, Portuguese, africans slavs. NO IT WAS BRITS.
