FLOODING!

There was a really bad thunderstorm this morning - it woke us up around 7 and lasted a couple of hours. I've just been down to Carvoeiro and it is almost business as usual now, but after a big clean-up!

Rua dos Pescadores is closed from the cut-through opposite the post office, but Rua do Barranco and the square are ok now.

There was a hell of a lot of rain between about 7am and 9am this morning. If you look at the radar link earlier and back track it to 7am you can see what I mean. The brighter colours denote the heavy stuff.

Can anyone give an idea of how many inches or cm of rain fell?

I've only just finished relaying the floor from last time we were flooded!

Avvie, yes, web cam is stuck at 2.29 but on Friday 3rd November, so I assume this has nothing to do with the flooding. Have been wondering why. Missing my daily visits to Carvoeiro.

Wow! Couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at the pictures from Ferragudo. Is this freak weather or does it happen often?

It doesn't happen that often - last time I remember it like this was about 2 years ago

This is quite true. Remember when we were living there, the chap we bought business off, told us that there had been very bad storms, flooding in winter 89/90....
I recall him saying that someone's parrot had drowned, as it was kept in a basement room.
We had some heavy rains during our time there..but amazingly it would dry up and there'd be hot sun and you wouldn't know thered been any rain at all!

Apparently, my daughter's drains were blocket with toilet paper. Is this a common problem?

The parrot was in Safari bar, Fraser owned it at the time!

We had some more rain overnight, but nothing like yesterday morning, and it has been dry today. I haven't been down to Cvo today, but am sure everything will be back to normal now.

Laserblazer, I have heard a lot of people talk of this problem. Seemingly the pipes which were used during construction are very narrow, blockages therefore more likely than not. We had the same problem when we first came (ours is an ex-rental property) but it seems fine now. Perhaps holidaymakers are less than vigilant about what they put down the loo - tampons just act like plugs once there are a few of them in the same drain! We regularly chuck a pail of water down the loo whilst flushing it at the same time and it seems to clear everything out. Lovely topic Eh!!

Thanks for that Avvie, I think if they are careful they will be ok. You must be pretty well a neighbour of my daughter. She drives an 05 Plate Freelander and has two small kids. Do wave if you see them out and about.
