buying portuguese or importing a car ? is there car auctions

Post by gdtmotors »

has anyone got any experience of importing a car (maybe from germany or belgium where theyre supposed to be cheaper ?)

i understand there is a lot of paperwork to do, am i better to save the time and just buy a portugeuse car ?

if i do this and buying privately is there such a thing as an equivalent to the hpi check we would do at home , to check for accidents , stolen or finance ?

would we be covered against this if buying from a dealer ?
is there such a thing as car auctions ?

It really depends on what you would prefer to do. You could save a lot of money by buying from Germany or Belgium, but there is a lot of hassle and paperwork.

No idea about anything else such as hpi checks in Portugal, or whether there are any local auctions. You can often get a good deal on lhd cars on ebay though.

Probably down to the type of car. If you want a small runabout Portugal because there are often ex hire cars around. If you want something more exotic, sports or 4X4 it is worth doing the arithmetic because you will probably save. Register on Auto Trader UK and search for LHD

Matriculation

Post by bazza »

Just matriculated a motorbike from england, started process in June 2005 through one of the agencies here in Portugal ( one i have used before ) got my Portugese number plates two weeks ago. Along with a lot more grey hair and expense. Please do not bother with matriculation unless you need some more stress in your life.
