Lagoa /Carvoeiro Library services?

Have any of you who are resident been into Lagoa library of late?
I only ask, as I've been sorting through pics I took last year, and I have one of the library ( a very attractive building)..
I can't remember if I ever went in there..but J thinks he did but didn't see any English literature?
I was just curious as to whether there are any sections of English, German or other language books in there now?
Will have to make a point of looking in there next time.
P.S. I seem to recall there was some sort of 'mobile' library service started up there some time back?

Hi Ellie, yes, we use the library. There is a (very outdated) selection of English novels, with German and I think some French too. Most of the books seem to have been donated from English libraries as they have the names stamped on them! They are all very old, with hardly any contemporary literature at all. There is the odd one or two, so I assume they are donated by ex-pats maybe. If they had a quarter of the selection the 2nd hand bookshop has it would be worth going to. Now, I tend only to use it for DVD's. They also don't have much space available if they were to extend their collection, however if they encouraged donations, they could selectively weed out some of the "less interesting" works they have. Haven't heard about a mobile service.

Ive always wondered about it, it looks such a handsome building and imagined it containing a wide selection of books. But from what you say, it does seems a bit rundown regarding those for expats?
As you rightly say, if they encouraged donations of up to date literature it would be a blessing for expats there?
I agree about the secondhand bookshop ( Algarve Book Cellar?)..its an Aladin's cave there isn't it?

The 'mobile sevice' I heard of was some years back, so maybe it isn't there any more.

Hi Elle,
Discovered the Algarve Book Celler when Gary and I were over in Sept. funny but I've only just dicovered after nearly 2 yrs, couldn't have looked hard enough. Great place and the guy there is sooo friendly. Had a wonderful conversation about horse breeding and Irish Cobs (sorry I can be a horsey bore), came out with a bag of books for the apartment. Next over Xmas for a week with some of our family so will tak another trek up to the cave....

D'you know, quite a few people have asked me where the 'Book Cellar' is, I suppose cos its sort of tucked away,on the parade of shops, on the lefthand side, as you enter Carvoeiro..
But yes, its quite a treasure trove isn't it? Ray also has audio books & videos too.
He is a friendly fella isn't he? I had quite a long chat with him before I came home and he gave me lotta good advice regarding my book (Im not a good business woman) on promoting it..and was good enough to take some more off me(for which I was very grateful

)
I didn't know that you had an interest in horses & breeding? But they ae beautiful creatures and I love watching them in the fields around here.

BTW, don't forget to visit 'Magna Carta' bookshop in Alvor,where you will find a great variety of books and you can also order online now !
