What to do when it's wet!

As the weather outlook is a bit grim, thought it might be worth asking the expert readership of excursions etc. they might recommend for those of us likely to be wading about the area over the next week or so. Forecast seems the same east and west of Carvoeiro. Any suggestions gratefully received. I quite like the idea of the river trip to Silves which has been mentioned before I think. Where would this leave from?

Don't know if you have been to CVO before, but there are several tour operators in the town which run day and half day trips to surrounding places. Silves being one of them, Monchique mountains and Loule'market are just some of the places of interest. There is usually a local pick up point for these excursions. There are also opportunities for you to take a day trips to Saville and also Lisbon, although It must be a pretty long day and you'd have to ask your local operator about pick up points.
Can anyone else help out there? Anyway I'm sure come rain or shine you will enjoy....

Thanks, both. I have been to CVO many times and have travelled around the Algarve quite a bit but previous visits tended to centre round the outdoor stuff in the day and eating and drinking in the evening. Having to find something under cover hasn't really been a feature - hope it won't be next week but looking for a contingency plan.

The old part of Faro is well worth a visit. You could also get a train to Tavira, which would make a good day out. The long range weather forecast seems to be changing by the minute, so it could be ok. Think positive

The river trip to Silves goes from the waterfront area in Portimao - it only goes once a day, depending on the time of high tide. Can be tricky to drive to that part of Portimao through the one way system unless you know the town - some of the operators will pick you up from Carvoeiro if you want them to and usually at a pretty nominal price. Brochures usually plentiful in all the tourist offices/complexes. Although the boat has some shelter it is a bit open to the elements so wouldn't be that pleasant if it was chucking it down! There is always the Guia shopping centre with cinema etc - bit like England in the rain ! Or take the train from Tunes to Lisbon - fabulous city to explore with good public transport for getting around. Best of luck - I'm sure it won't rain ALL the time !
