over the border
over the border
Went to Ayamonte today and saw all the developments taking place there..very nice, lovely beaches and deserted and the buildings were nice and well done ...at least compared to here they have left green areas in between the blocks but oh dear it was completely lifeless ..everything was closed (reminded me of what clement freud saud about new zealand..he went there on a thursday and it was closed) perhaps they copied the idea from our very own ghost town vilamoura
So back to Ayamonte town itself..well twas some time ago, I recall the only "visitors" there were the portuguese picking up something cheaper in spain rather than here in the algarve..but now we have loads of german /english /french wandering around after having landed no doubt at Faro airport and transported across the border (there is now a welcome to Heulva zone at Faro airport)
Also years ago I do not recall seeing a single real estate agent..today I counted 10:
so watch out algarve....in spain I cannot seeing them killing their tourist industry with such daft things as house tourist licences

A friend following visited the " Spanish " algarve last year attracted by the expensive brochures etc sent out by these huge developments.
Impressed he was not.
His impression was that before too soon the area would resemble the costa,s with over development on a huge scale.
He crossed the border and eventually purchased a new apartment near Tavira and for a much lower price he would have paid in Ayamonte.

We made the mistake of going to Ayamonte on Thursday 5th! Half of Portugal was there but never saw Martin!
SPANISH INQUISITION
AAAAAAAAAAAAH! That was you was it??! Most of the Algarve residents I saw were crowded round the tobacco shop buying cheap fags! Sad innit?
Did you see how much the Spanish petrol/diesel has increased?
