Food Market close to Monte Dourado

Post by SJ & RE »

 This market open 7am-2pm daily except Sun is absolutely superb.
The fruit n veg are fresh and the lady speaks good English and will help you with your Portugese. The bakery section has wonderful bread, criossants and cakes. But be early cos they go so quick. The cafe is clean and serves lovely food. The deli is run by a lovely young lady who has all you need. The local cheeses are a must. The fish section is clean and not smelly at all and they are so friendly and there are lots of lovely fish to choose from. The butchers is fab. Gorgeous kebabs and the sausages are really tasty. We are widlife friendly naturally reared beef farmers here in Dorset but we must say the beef here is very good from this small market. The butcher knows where his meat comes from and both the men speak good English and can talk to you on how to cook the meats etc on offer. A brilliant market that I visited daily for our supplies.

Have been going to the market for many years for fresh fruit. If you visit Carvoeiro in June - the cherries are to die for from there. The ladies on the fruit/veg counters have always welcomed us with a smile.

Can you explain where this market is? I usually use the Intermarche but their fruit and veg isn't always that good.

Have a look at the maps on this site - Carvoeiro Centre map - look for (market place). It is down restuarant hill, past the Mirachoro Hotel going into Carvoeiro - on the right hand side steep road that leads up to the market. Cannot miss it.

Enjoy the food.

It's also an excellent fish market, you choose your fish & pay the nice lady & then a very nice man takes it to the sink at the end & gut, scales & cleans it/them for you. Wonderful. :D
