flights/delays/security etc

were flying out from east midlands on the 23rd aug with easyjet , just wondering if anyone has experienced any delays etc travelling out and back to the uk , and has faro airport the same security measures in place as the u.k. here,s hoping everything gets back to normal asap , i want my freedom back !!!

Following this morning's police operation, the Department for Transport has asked all UK airports to apply additional security measures designed to ensure passenger safety.

Hand baggage restrictions:
These measures will prevent passengers from carrying hand luggage into the cabin of an aircraft with the following excepts (which must be placed in a plastic bag):

pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags));
travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets);
prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (e.g. diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic.
spectacles and sunglasses, without cases.
contact lens holders, without bottles of solution.
for those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and
sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags).female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes).
tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs
keys (but no electrical key fobs)
All passengers must be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be x-ray screened. Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger.

Pushchairs and walking aids must be x-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point. In addition to the above, all passengers boarding flights to the USA and all the items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point, must be subjected to secondary search at the boarding gate. Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger.

Faro is also implermenting the same procedure.
1 to 2 hour delays should be expected.

i just picked up my parents from a return flight to the canary island, and they were allowed hand luggage through security checks.

I think only in the US are the checkin restrictions the same as the UK. There is no information on faro airport web site.

I am not sure whether there are any restrictions at faro, but there are at East Midlands. The hand luggage restrictions I think apply to all UK airports. However the flights in and out of Faro to East Midlands do seem to be leaving and arriving on time. You can get live flight times on the Faro website.

Just travelled back from Faro yesterday evening. Everyone had hand luggage. The only things they were making you take out were anything with liquid in it that had been opened. If bottles were obviously unopened then they were OK. Phones, CD players, laptops etc are now OK to take on baord (this was with Monarch).

We flew back yesterday and only encountered one problem - having had our opened bottles of water removed I wanted to buy some more in the airport - the shops don't sell water so I had to buy some from the cafe at 1.70 Euros for 30ml - this equates to 57 Euros per litre - is this the most expensive water in the World?

Note to self - take spare (unopened) bottles next time.

PS Is it just me or is this very pointless - how hard would it be to get a syringe, stick in the bottom of the bottle, empty it, refill it with something nasty and plug the hold with a dab of superglue?

Can I ask those of you who have flown to Faro in recent days, is it back to normal with hand luggage now? And are there any 'no no's for the handbag?
I only ask, as I always take notebook and pen on board, as I like to write during the flight. Is a pen permissable? When the terrorist scare was on I know pens weren't allowed?
Also is mobile phone allowed in handbag too & personal stereo please?

Look on the easy jet site they have size and details of what is allowed and NOT allowed now.

Yes I have looked on there and it seems my bag is ok(about size of laptop case)..
So its no perfume/deodorant..doesn't say about pens so presume ok (will pack pencil as well)..and nothing about mobile phones / & personal stereo, so presume they are ok too

They are fine about phones and battery operated key fobs now. It really seems to be anything that is liquid that could be a problem. basically toiletries are a problem!
