Good Supermarket Wines
Good Supermarket Wines

A nice Vinho Verde is the one with the blue label which looks like lace on it, Casal Garcia, it is about 2.65 euros from the supermarkets. Also we like the red, white and rose wine called Alandra the lable has holes cut into it to look like a bunch of grapes again only about 2 - 3 euros a bottle.
We will look for these wines at the Intermarche when we shop there. Does anyone else have any good recommendations of wines that can be purchased in CVO? We have bought local wines before and have been disappointed. We love wine so it would be great to find a good one

I have yet to come across a wine red or white in Portugal that I consider to be great. Does anyone know of an equivalent wine like say a Barolo or a heavy type Italian wine. Dont mind spending a bit but just have no idea what to ask for. By no means a wine snob can quoff it with the best of them but sometimes its nice to try something different.

Definitely Lesley - I remember a few years ago back and forth to CVO where I was more than happy drinking Leziria which subsequently received a slating on here a couple of years ago - I suspect I was enjoying Lexiria in CVO in 1990 about the same time I was merrily drinking Piesporter and like here in the UK!!!!!!!
Do our tastes actually mature or do we simply become snobs - rhetorical question, please do feel free to ignore!!

Trust me Im no wine snob but dont mind spending around €10 - €20 on a bottle now and then and just wanted some recommendations about good heavy fruity wines. Just bought a book called 300 beers you must try before you die. Now thats what I call a quest !! Only tried about 50 so far but as I live next door to Belgium dont have to far to go to try a fair few. My favourite so far and its only because I lived 4 miles from the brewery in Horndean (Its closed now !!) is Gales Prize Old Ale. So in reality you could call me a beer snob.......
PS Had a bottle of this stuff 10 years old in a bar in Antwerp of all places pure heaven.
