Can anyone tell me the best way to get rid of the black stuff that has appeared on the ceiling of my bathroom after the long wet winter :?:

 Try washing it down with a solution of bleach and washing up liquid, if that doesn't work then you can buy mould cleaners from places like Mestre Maco. :D

When next painting, there is an additive (for paint )that prevents bolor and can be bought in Mestre Maco. If you use that after washing with bleach solution it will help prevent the black coming through in future

I am not sure if it's available in Portugal, but if it is get yourself some Dettol Mould & Mildew Remover. We got some for our bathroom tiles and it was fantastic! Just spray it on, leave it a few minutes and rinse it off. Easy, peasy. It is also good for cleaning UPVc windows after a winter's grime and damp.

If you rub the "bolor" you'll just spread it around the wall. Use an old glassex pistol to spray the mould and let it dry, you can see where it's been sprayed because it goes brown. If there's any left spray again, but DON'T rub it just let the bleach dry.

We've tried the anti-fungal (fungus??) paint, it doesn't solve the problem completly but it does make a difference.

At Mestre Maco they sell products from HG. In the Netherlands they sell this product; maybe you can get it there (I don't know the Portuguese name):

HG mouldspray effectively removes all black and brown stains caused by mould, fungus and algae. These unsightly black or brown marks are found on the silicon seal between the bath tub and edges of tiles, on the shower cubicles and on plaster. HG mouldspray is also highly suitable for the removal of coffee or tea stains from plastic worktops. Spray HG mouldspray on the surface from a distance of 3 to 5 cm. Repeat the treatment on badly affected areas after 10 minutes. Allow 30 minutes for the product to work and then rinse off with water and a sponge.

Go to this site:
http://www.hginternational.com/uk/

At the left top side you can search there products. Type in the search box MOULD and then click on search. You then are on the page of this product and cab see a picture of the spraybottle; In the Netherlands it looks like this one, so I think in Portugal it must look the same.

Good luck,
