smell in the square
I have noticed on this forum that many people have mentioned that there is a smell in the square. What is this and is it only temporary or is it a permanent.
I have been to Carvoeiro 3 times but not for a few years now and am a little concerned as we would alwyas end up at the square for out last "superbock"

It is still there. The works have been completed and the square looks back to normal but it really is bad. However when you mention your last beer. It is still a very nice place to have your last or a few beers but I would not eat in it. There is plenty of entertainment in the square at night at the moment and can be enjoyed over a few beers so don't let all the bad publicity put you off. It is still one of the nicest places in the world to holiday. I have just come back today from 2 weeks there and that was the fourth time I visited in the last 8 months !!! So it obviously has something special to offer.

Smelly
Had a nightcap Irish Coffee at Grand Café last night and never noticed it. Mind you Dani was dancing like a whirling dervish so maybe he wafted it away towards Armação?

Thats the strange thing about it. It is not there all the time. Some nights you don't get it at all but more worryingly I have noticed a number of times where unsuspecting people have happily sat down to their evening meal in the square only to find half way throught it that they are getting more than just the scent from freshly cooked steaks !!!! Overall I have to say it is really not that bad now unlike the winter months when the area was boarded up and it wasn't a smell but rather a stench. Again I say don't let it put anybody off. The square is heavily populated in the evenings at present and if it was bad those people would not be there.
