I nod in agreement to Maddis words---but G brings us back to the other grim realities of today----remember how the late Princess Diana had us focusing on that "other sort of mine" that is still killling and maiming the innocents-----
On a lighter note--also have to agree with him on the "plagues" of too many popstars( and to this Id add the ever increasing nos of so-called celebrities that fill our papers&mags every day and who i find brain -numbingly boring!) and the greatest bore of all "big brother"!
To get back on track with topic--just like to say,that I sent off photos and letter to my Portuguese friend in Carvoeiro--to remind her of CVO.COM--and to invite her to take part on this topic--and post her own message of how she feels about her "Disappearing world" . I sincerely hope that she will take up the invitation.
Regarding Rods suggestion of song for George bests son(Callum I believe is his name) ----how about the one and only Frank Sinatra and his:
"Give me one for my baby and one more for the road"

Ex-Algarve!
I understood perfectly well what the young man was saying to me and that is why I emphathised with him.
He knows Im an English woman--and one who lived in Algarve some ten years ago-----but he was very straight forward about his concerns and "foreigners" like my fellow country men and Germans et al buying up land & property. I simply reported what he told me.
What "dream" am I supposed to be thinking of--please tell me?
you sound quite bitter--from some horrible past experience there--am I right?
Well --our stay in Algarve didnt have a very pleasant outcome--and we lost almost everything--and had to start again in UK.
We went "into service" as housekeeper & chauffeur to save for caravan to live in,waiting over 2 years for a proper home.
But--Im not bitter--it doesnt get you anywhere---and it doesnt diminish my love for Algarve & its people.
it taught me to appreciate the simpler things of life- i had no running water for a whole winter/so now, i never waste it----and relationships with others--thats whats important.

Yeah I know it would Cowboy!
What I mean is--having no running water for almost 4 months made me appreciate what I ve always taken for granted--turning on a tap!
But my tasks were nothing compared to the poor sods who have to walk miles in boiling heat to get every drop--as they do inparts of the African continent!
I believe we still have "pockets" of thirdworld in so-called civilised countries like yours and mine.People who dont have a roof over their head-who have to line up at soup kitchens etc etc. In other words --on our own doorstep!
I hope Ex-Algarve comes back to clarify his experience of "being ripped off" in Algarve-----we werent ripped off as such--it was "recession" that did for us plus sick elderly parents. We always met with utmost kindness & help rom the Portuguese people.

Come to that--the Portuguese people have been "ripped off" for years--by their own government--you only have to look at the recent fires---where did all the money go--that was to have gone into a better fire service and preventatives? Money issued by the EU?
