Never been there, but have heard it's good.
Starting from the square just walk up the hill towards Rocha Brava, it's the last restaurant on the right as you turn to Algar Seco. You can't miss it, it's pink!!
Yes, it's near the square, after dinner walk along the cliff top road, past Algar Seco, the church and back down into the square.

Sorry - I can't recommend Primavera.
I went there a month or so ago (after it being on my 'to do' list for some time), and was extremely disappointed.
It was a Friday night and we had booked. They were nearly full outside (about 7 tables), but only had four tables inside in use. There were another six tables empty. They kept turning away customers saying that the tables were booked but in fact no one showed up for them. It suggests to me that they knew the kitchen would struggle even with so few tables occupied.
This was indeed the case. Starters took an hour, with main courses another hour later (i.e. 10.15pm) - my wife's chicken was so undercooked even the man at the next table suggested it would be dangerous to eat. Admittedly, when I complained, they did offer to re cook it, but it was getting too late by then so my wife just left it and ate the (scant) vegetables.
I have a feeling that the head chef had not turned up and the assistant was on duty, but if that was the case then they should have said so rather than put on a terrific effort of avoiding us.
I was also not impressed when the three tables around us (we had formed a good little social party by this time) asked for an Irish coffee and were told that they were unable to make them!
The best bit was when I asked for the bill I was told that, as a special favour, they were not going to charge me for my wife's salmonella inducing main course !
In all I thought the food was nowhere near good enough for the prices they charged, and the way they handled my complaint was very poor (not even a free glass of wine for the wait / poor food).
About the only thing I can say in their favour was that they do take American Express!

I would highly recommend Primervera, We go everytime we are in Carvo, probably 8 times a year, we have never had a bad meal!
In the height of summer you do not want to sit inside to eat as it is rather warm in there, cozy in the winter but too hot in the summer.
To make an Irish coffe properly you need more that a shot of whisky in the bottom of a cup of coffee with cream. They cannot get all the ingredients, so because they can't make it properly they choose not to.
Our friends and family who we have taken there think the same as us that it is one of the finest - in walking distance.
The Restaurant is family run, and the chefs are father and son, so it's anyones guess what the probelm was. One bad meal shouldn't taint the reputation of a restaurant that has been around and with the same owners for years.
We can't wait for September to return.

We went to this restaurant when we were on holiday a couple of years ago & didn't think much of it, thought it was a bit pretentious to be honest, delusions of grandeur which the food certainly didn't live up to, so we never went back, there are so many other places to choose from all of which, in my experience, manage to produce a fairly decent irish coffee.
