Not sure what going rate is but I do know that the local Camara charges have gone up a lot for fossa emptying. Do you use them or a private contractor?

It was me who paid the 91 cents for 1 cubic metre to be taken away by the local council. I know it sounds ridiculously cheap but that was the price plus the 5.25 € I had to pay at the town hall for the hire of the tractor + two guys. Total cost for 1 cubic metre of gunge - 6.16€
OK, I live up north and expect everything to be cheaper than down there but there can't be that much of a difference. 132 € sounds very expensive to me. I couldn't fault the council service which was cheaper and more efficient than the last time I had it done by a private guy who charged 25€. The council guys also flushed out my pipes for me to make sure there weren't any blockages which the private guy didn't do.
I had a good look at my fossa while they were here because I wanted to know exactly what I'd got and how it worked. Three chambers with hardly anything in the last two. What the council guys removed was the solid gunge which had collected in the first chamber. I live on a hill which I suppose helps drainage of the water. The other advantage of getting the local council to do it is that they have to deal with the waste in a proper manner, i.e. take it to the sewage farm - the private guy can do what he likes with it!
They also told me that I should only need it emptying about once every 5 years.
If you want the local council to deal with your waste all you need to give them apart from your address is your fiscal number. In fact, when you give them your fiscal number, your address comes up automatically on the pc.
