This is getting very strange. You actually wipe down door knobs and arm rests on planes. You'll be afraid to go out at all pretty soon.

I was told that there are more germs on paper money and notice when we are in Algarve that staff in cafes etc. wear sterile gloves, a practice which doesn't seem to be used very often in UK...or at least I never see it when someone has just prepared some food and then takes money at the till.

As far as I am aware all food outlets which require handling e.g. in sandwich bars, the staff wear the equivalent of surgical gloves or clear ones and a different staff member takes the money.

Where they can use utensils - e.g. a spatula for cakes or savoury pastries then the same staff member can also take the money

To be honest I thought this was basic food hygiene law and as such a requirement.

Perhaps if you are worried about public health you need to report premises in the UK that aren't keeping to these practices.
