Guests 121, if you were running a legit business, surely you wouldn't care whether you were inspected or not.....
The illegit companies will get what they deserve, regardless of whether you"grass them up" or not.....
Seems like this inspection is a "touchy subject" for you.. Might you have something to hide????

Is it rather like the UK where only legitimate businesses get inspected because they are the only one who 'officially' exist?
i.e. if you are running an unregistered business then no-one knows to inspect you and you are more likely to incorporate 'dodgy' practices.
Rather like the CSA who relentlessly pursue absent parents who are registered with them and appear to do nothing about the absent parents who by not paying anything at all are never pursued to pay more!
Perhaps that is where Guest121 was coming from rather than personally having something to hide.
I could be way off beam I know

I'm out of here...these inspectors marched into my office...Gestapo style , flashed their ID and asked my staff to line up....dictated I report to their office within three days with all the SS stuff.( SS ..Good term but now it means Social Security) .medical and Insurance policies etc etc..I was legal but after a weeks trying to get it all together and visiting their office in Portimao on time they made me wait about 40 minutes whilst these AH's has their Fag outside...and then they so kindly instructed me to show them everything....as said..I am legal and insure my six full time staff..this is the end of the road...I will pay the crazy two or three months wages I must by law..and then my staff have no job...I dont care ...and I dont need to live in a police state......my staff are devastated..I told them to start to stand on their own two feet and respond to their government....after 8 years its sad, I love the country but sorry...something is missing from the local Brain area.

I don't think legitimate business's mind the inspections, it's all the bureaucracy that comes with them.
But I don't understand why the guest who had the "SS" visit is jacking in his legal business of 8 years if he was all in order, & what crazy wages is he talking about, is there a minimum wage limit (as at home )? And is it set at a ridiculous rate?

I think the "crazy two or three months wages I must by law" maybe redundancy payments reading between the lines.
Guest subjected to SS visit, I empathise with the fact that you currently feel really angry - when you feel able to - it would be great to get an understanding from you as to what in was particular was the problem (when you are operating fully legally) and what has caused you to take such drastic measures - I am sure that there must be good reasons which it would be useful for others to know about.
Unfortunately like most of us - a post written in anger - often needs coming back to and clarifying.
I don't doubt that you now have, through experience, knowledge and expertise that others would benefit from.

As an ex-UK VAT Inspector, I cannot understand why there should be any reluctance to "grass someone up". If you know that someone is acting illegally, and you don't inform the relevant authorities, you are effectively condoning the illegal activity. The taxpayers of any state have a right to expect that their officials will do the job that they are paid to do, but they can only do it effectively with the support of those taxpayers. The officials are not psychic, nor can they be everywhere at once, so they need to be given any information to assist. I can say that the UK authorities spend a great deal of time and effort trying to catch the "illegal" operators, in addition to routine inspections of the legal ones, and walls of silence do not help. If you are not prepared to help get rid of the illegals, do not complain about their activities.
