I think Tiger & Jack are absolutely right, these grafitti 'artists' are ruining the landscape & should be severely punished, I think golf is definitely the answer - I know I'd never do anything wrong if I knew I'd have to play golf.

This could really work in the UK, there we could make young offenders play golf whilst wearing plus 4s or 2s & pringle sweaters

Well if we get past the golf dress generalizations which are so off base these days (go check out Golf Punk magazine), the 'sport' itself has the ability to teach alot about personal integrity and good sportsmanship, patience, long-term commitment, and other positive elements, yes even being able to appreciate nature (in city instances the rare place for fauna to seek refuge).

Attempting to "promote" anything remotely positive about golf on this site is a complete waste of time as others have found.

Possibly best to keep comment about the game away from here for the sake of "peace"

After all - the game is played only by rich idiots who wear stupid clothes and care nothing for the environment or the local population (unless they can patronise them into caddying and being treated like "coolies"

Aahh 'twas just a little joke - honest, I'm not one of the golf bashers (although I do wonder just how many golf courses they are going to be able to squeeze into the Algarve), my husband is a dedicated golfer & has been all his life, I could be what is referred to as a 'golf widow' at times, hence the 'gentle' teasing, I know he'll read my postings at some point.

Annika as for golf dress generalization my comments didn't seem so "off base" yesterday when I was outside the Gramacho Clubhouse as a whole load of golfers turned up. They were all wearing their summer uniform & looked like they were auditioning for a part in an Eric Morcambe tribute, with their baggy shorts, which for some unknown reason they choose to wear with the hem coming somewhere from just below the knee to just above the ankle, combined with mid-shin ankle socks, baggy tops & strange hats. Very high fashion & sartorialy elegant

But I do agree that sport is definitely a way to get through to kids, I don't know what it's like here but unfortunately in England the councils have sold off most of the school playing fields & decided that sport is too dangerous (risk of litigation if little darlings get injured). There was a saying in my dim & distant youth "healthy body, healthy mind", mind you not sure that applies in all cases.

I am sure we have had this discussion before but where I live in the Uk - sport in schools is still very much part of the curriculum and right through from 4 until 16 PE is a required part of the syllabus regardless of whether, post 14, a pupil takes it as an option (as is RE).

Indeed at 11 in this area choices for the 95% who do not attend the grammar schools are between specialist schools who whilst covering the the basic curriculum across the board either specialise in Science & Technology, Arts and the Media (my daughter's choice) and a Sports Academy (my son's choice).

Reading that back I have obviously raised a couple of stereotypes!!!!
