where to stay in lisbon
I will be spending most of my honeymoon in carvoeiro and exploring the algarve. Beforehand however we will be in Lisbon. Does anyone have any recomendations on where to stay? We're trying to look at affordable places that are still good. Could be a B&B, apartment..etc. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.
Lisbon hotels or better to say the city hotels are aimed at buisness travelers and whilst they are comfortable and have all the things the average buisness traveller needs, they seriously lack the romantic ambience you might be looking for during a honeymoon.
Nevertheless, they are located well in the centre of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and therefore hugely aid discovering the hidden treasures this city has to offer.
Have a look at http://lisbon.ratestogo.com/ for the period you wish to travel, the areas you will be aiming ait is Old town & Baixa or the Gulbenkian & Buisness district which is well within walking distance of the Avenida da Liberdade and the Baixa.
Failing that, you can still opt to go to the outskirts of Lisbon or even Sintra & Cascais, as the public transportation to take you into the centre of Lisbon is frequent and (relatively) reliable.
Once you move into areas like Cascais, Sintra or Estoril you are within what I would call the touristy areas of Lisbon and prices may reflect that, but on the other hand you will also have easy access to long sandy beaches, spas, seaside boardwalks etc, as well as an array of luxury restaurants offering some of the best seafood in town.
Wherever you go, make sure you plan to stay in the Lisbon area for at least 2 nights, or you willl be hard pressed to see even the most famous sights this city has to offer.
