Chip & pin is just a name for it

Not sure what you mean by that MC, my cards have an embedded chip and obviously a pin

I know, but people use chip & pin to mean, having to enter a pin number instead of signing for it.

But will I be able to use my debit card with magnetic strip and pin or does the system only work with the chip?

Assuming (dangerous) that the system is the same as the UK, you will still be able to use the old style cards

There is another exception too Andy, which I heard on the news yesterday.

If you are of a certain age and you think you are unlikely to remember the pin number you can request from your bank a chip and signature card. Not sure what difference this will make as we will have to sign the back of chip and pin cards in any case!!!!

I love chatting to my grandmother who goes through all of her children's and grandchildren's names before she gets to the one she wants

I have had a conversation with her where she has called me "Mary, Maureen, Margaret, Peter????, Nadene" before finally getting to me, it's quite sweet really - but woe betide the one who corrects her before she gets it right

My dad kept calling Sharen, Karen!

We have a Turkish friend, Cem, who insists on calling her Karen, too; even when he clearly hears me calling her by her correct name!!!
