Could anyone please tell me if you need pin numbers on debit cards in
Carvoerio please.

Michael,

They've had chip and pin at Intermarche for a couple of years, but don't recall anywhere else except maybe a couple of restaurants.

I think you can use ChipnPin in some outlets OR sign everywhere.

Modelo in portimao and the outlets at guia shopping centre all require chip and pin

One of the displays that the chip produces on a till is if there is a pin. Up until the 14th if there was no pin it would display "signature". There are many in the UK without pins even now and particulary Barclays. The Potuguese know that our cards are "in the main" chip and pin. I think knowing we are in theory now a chip and pin society will enforce it. My advice is to make sure you know your pin and hammer the bank that has not provided it. I still can't believe the UK banking fraternity has been so slow on this.

Not sure what you mean by "chip n pin".

In NA, we swipe our debit cards and enter our pin into a gadget. But there's no chip invovled, just a magnetic strip.

Have the European debit cards now been converted to embedded chips instead of magnetic strips? Thanks.

Here we place our cards into a slot in a machine (often hand-held in restaurants etc.) and the we enter our pin number.

Chip & pin is just a name for it.

No its not. There now is a chip on the front of the card which didn't use to be there. Previously we too had only a swipe function
