I do it in 2 hours although that includes breaking the speed limit - so perhaps 2.5 hours would be a 'good run'

On the new toll road it should be about 2.5 - 3 hours - don't forget to take a ticket at the toll booth otherwise they will charge you the maximum amount.

Well done or should I say jeez!!! Is that to the city centre, the airport or are you counting arriving at the Vasco da Gama Bridge?

You know ...... just for future reference - should the competitive spirit come upon me

Algarve to Lisboa is over 250 Kilometers..... travelling at the top speed of the motorway which is 120 it would take you in excess of 2hrs...and this speed of course could not be maintained throughout the journey.
An average speed of 100 divided into 250 =2.5hrs:

156 miles then which would be 75 miles per hour (to do it in two hours)on a totally empty road every time I do it - a fraction over the very conservative UK motorway speed limits and I guess those used to driving on autobahns - must truly fly before they realise the speed limit.

However you are right speed does kill :?

It's not so much the speed as the very sudden stop!

Can anyone recommend a good quality centrally located hotel/Inn in Lisbon within walking distance of the main sights - preferably with parking?

sorry Sandy. Although I know Lisbon well, I’ve never stayed in a hotel here and I don’t know anything about them realy.

re the drive Algarve>Lisbon, I’ve done it dozens of times but never without stopping half way. What’s the rush? It gets hot in the middle of Alentejo and I love to stop off at one of those Galp service stations. You don’t have to buy any ripoff refreshments, just put your car in the shade, find somewhere to sit in the shade and enjoy the view.

:D
