McDonald's Portugal elected the best in Europe
McDonald's Portugal has been distinguished with the prize for the best performance in Europe in 2005, namely due to the creation of the segment "Sopissima" and to the laying of the first stone of "Ronald McDonald's House".

The prize, awarded in Italy, "distinguishes the development of McDonald's Portugal throughout 2005" and reflects the performance of the brand, the results obtained and the work of relations with the community, refers the company in a communication.

McDonald's Europe presents the greatest sales growth of the last 10 years, with a growth of 2,6% against 2004, they add.

The Portuguese company points out two projects developed in 2005 due to its originality and "capitalisation of the efforts on the level of social responsibility": the creation, development and launching of a segment of exclusively Portuguese products, the "Sopissima" and the laying of the first stone of the "Ronald McDonald House" in Lisboa.

For the Portuguese company of the North-American group, this prize "signifies the public recognition of a continuous effort realised by the brand in terms of values and principles".

These principles relate to their objective of having "the capacity of adapting its products and services to the needs of the consumers", they state.

McDonald's currently hold 116 restaurants in Portugal, 85% of which are managed by Portuguese companies under a franchising regime.

In 2004, sales of McDonald's Portugal increased 7%, to 163,2 million euros, higher than initial expectations, whose estimations point to a growth of 4,5%.

McDonald's, world leader in the sector of fast food restaurants, has more than 30 thousand units spread around the world.
