Passports

Thanks ellie & loretta for the information. I knew of course Nth Ireland did not require a passport, but was unsure with regard Southern etc.

ps I am going to check how much it cost us to re-new our passports here in the Algarve last year and if it's any different to that of the UK I will post ....because some members may find it of interest.Thanks again.

Remember you need to get back into the UK. If your Dublin flight brings you in at International Arrivals rather than Domestic you may find yourself being held up whilst they verify your point of origin

Thanks Ellie for pointing Rod's reply posting out to me..I missed it...Thanks Rod and also Guest2 for the information...at sometime I would like to go to Cork to do a bit of research...I believe I might still have family there.

Just dragged this one up for a moment!
To our surprise, after sending off the forms and pics for our passports, our photos were returned today...reason being they were 'too light'!
Now these were taken at a photographic studio and by a professional who does this regularly..
So tomorrow we have to have them done again...making sure that:
They're not too light or blurred
No shadows across the face
No 'darting eye'
No portrait style
No hair near the eyes
Mouth completely closed(

)
No wearing of spectacles that cover the eyes(

)
No sunglasses
No hat
Not too far from camera
Not too close!

and nothing 'busy' in the background!
Just so's you know

This is taken from a travel agents web site and may clear up the passport issue.
Anyway, Ellie I'll vouch for you!

Passport/ Visa
All visitors to Ireland, apart from UK Nationals, are required to travel on their national identity card but it is recommended to carry a valid passport.
Citizens living within the EU and most other western countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa do not require visas.
All other countries should contact their local Irish Embassy/Consulate prior to travelling to the Republic of Ireland and visitors to Northern Ireland should contact their local British Embassy/High Commission or the Consular Office for Northern Ireland.

Well the saga went on...we had our photos taken again, this time wearing darker coloured clothes and our sternest looks & sent them off last week!
When we came in from shops today there was a phone message and for us to call back to the Passport office..they wanted to ask Hub a question

?
He called back...after a few seconds of paper shuffling in background, the young lady said 'What clothes were you wearing in your picture?'.....
a moments silence then,
'It was a black shirt and black sweater'...
shuffle shuffle again..
'Right. Well your wife's picture is ok and fits requirements but yours doesn't quite'
Hub 'Oh whys that?'
'Its your hair..you have light silver sideburns and the left one is a bit fluffed up and near your eye!'
Hub 'Sorry about that, so whats happening?'
'Well we're not entirely happy about it.. it would be better if the sideburns were darker!'
Hub 'Well I'm sorry about that, but I refuse to do the Grecian 2000 bit'
Giggles at the other end......then
'Well, perhaps you could bear it in mind for your next one'
Hub 'Ok, if I haven't shuffled off this mortal coil in 10 years times, I might get the dye bottle out! But what about me passport?'
Few mins go by, shuffle shuffle again...
'Okay, we 've had a little conference and we are going to pass it. Your passports will be in the post!'
Hooray..at last!

......phewww..quite exhausting this lark....
