Passports

Post by elle »

I've been sorting out a short break in Dublin, taking advantage of the new Ryan Air flights from Humberside..the dates Ive looked at from late April are extremely cheap ranging from 0.99 to £24-99..
but then realised our passports are out of date this year--funny how you can completely over look this!
Anyway,I didn't realise this but out of curiousity I typed Passports in google and found it could be done online (maybe many of you knew this already?)..
This was Wednesday morning. Gave all info and the papers arrived early this morning, everything filled in (they guarrantee 2day delivery if you do it before 1.45pm)..
so now already to post with photos and solicitors signature.
BTW.. probably a daft question, but we do need passports to visit Republic of Ireland don't we?

If you are renewing an existing passport then you don't need the photos signed as a true likeness which can speed the process up even more.

All low cost airlines require photographic proof even on domestic flights

Hi Ellie

You don't need a passport to visit the Republic of Ireland, and then, under a reciprocal agreement, unknown numbers of Paddies , quid pro quo, can avail of the UK welfare system

For Ryanair, you do need some photographic evidence of your identity at the check in, and I must warn you that a piccy of you and a taxi driver outside Colombos will not suffice. Normally it's a valid passport or a driving license if it has your monicker on it. If you visit the Ryanair web site they will advise you of what is required

Muito obrigada for that info Rod and Im really chuffed at the thought of treading on Irish soil, to become one of its honourary citizens!
and looking forward to hearing the old moniker being said proper,
to be sure its 'Magrar'
Anything youve seen or read on my corner regarding photos with taxi driver outside Colombos,is pure speculation..
I only ever go as far as Lagoa with him 8) ........
and whats 'Cead mille failte' when its at home? or will I be sorry I asked?

VERY URGENT WARNING
It has come to the attention of this office that a certain person under the alias of someone else is attempting to land in Ireland via a dodgy passport. Warning to all officials be on the look out for baggage disguised as a knitting box and a passport photo with crossed over knitting needles stuck in a bun hairstyle.

You would be hard pushed to find a brit here now to give you a welcome, They have all been moved on by all the other nationalalities (sp) who have come here to live out thier lifes in comfort on our welfare state

To balance your statement Guest, there are very many other nationalities who 'work' within our Welfare State, in our hospitals (which probably would not function too well without their imput), other medical services doctors, dentists(Spanish for example) other emergency services as well as in jobs that Brits don't want to do. Prime example is the large community of Portuguese who work in agriculture here!
Take a look at our armed services, and all the colours, creeds who serve there..
Have a think. 'Other nationalities' don't all come here to live off our welfare state....vast majority are hard working and contribute a great deal to the benefit of our country.

Well said Ellie. Most of the foreigners, who work in the UK are doing jobs that most UK citizens don't want to do. You can't have in both ways. I went to a party this summer, where there were lots of British expats complaining about the same thing in the UK, yet a large majority of them were operating dodgy businesses in Portugal, Spain and other countries and were not totally kosher themselves. But of course they told me that wasn't the same thing. :?

I don't think the UK would function if it weren't for people from other countries working here.
