those that think 4 wheel drives arent needed here havent driven here very long...i ripped out my sump on a stone on a dirt track...dont think 4 wheel drives are just for people in uk they were designed for roads like the algarve...are are very needed....trouble is no can afford them. now

with regard to waiting re offshore...all the advice i have read is that an offshore owner has until the end of the year...wait if you want to,,,as for me im getting out now even though its costing 5000 euros in legal costs etc

A round of applause for that post, please. I know it is hot and you are probably all sweating your nuts off every time you move a limb, but bashing your keyboard to within an inch of it´s life will not help.

1. Might I suggest you either drive slower or buy yourself a 4x4 if you are going to go tearing down dirt tracks.

2. If you actually gave us some info on your situation re. offshore as in what threatens you and why it is going to cost you € 5000 to get out (out to where??) we could understand and maybe profit from your input. Right now it looks like you are handling your financial decisions like you handle your car.

I think that anyone with an offshore held property should explore their individual situation with some person that knows what is going on.

Each individual case is different and it does need some time to sort out and decide the options and the best move.

As things stand it will become too expensive for anyone to stay as is I believe.

to those who think they can wait..bear in mind how long the process will take in legal work and booking the time at the notary...if you wait until november then you may find it too late.

what ever little pearl of wisdom our friend has on food not being as hot as when cooked.....remember that those who leave their food in the oven can find it burnt and unedible.

Caution is really the only advice I can give after having talked to scores of people who have been conned, fooled, betrayed, robbed, etc. They just met all the wrong people.

I am not trying to sell you or anybody anything here, mate.
I am not a financial advisor promoting resident panic stories nor am I a member of a trust company who stands to make big £££ off fearful, panic striken houseowners.

Depends where company is presently located as "departure" fees vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

Has anyone experienced problems moving their mortgages away from Abbey following their decision to withdraw from Iberian lending? Given that they are not speedy my worry is that the higher volume of requests to do things cause problems.

I have written to my MP in the UK regarding the offshore problem and he agrees that these most unfair measures being meted out by the Portuguese Government could indeed be contrary to EU law. He has passed my letter on to Roy Perry MEP at:- Tarrants Farmhouse, West Wellow, Romsey, Hampshire. SO51 6DA. So don't just sit there get writing!!

I would be interested to hear how others are getting on with either, transferring into private ownership, or re domiciling their companies?
Has anyone met with opposition from the financas? Has the transfer out other jurisdictions been quick and easy?

As already told earlier by Biffa and others, they are too much individual elements to be considered before taking decision, e.g. your short/long term intentions, the initial and actual value, mortgage or not, the taxagreement of your country versus Portugal, succesionposibilities or not, etc. My solution could work out badly for you.

A professional advice is not a luxury.

Personally I took a decision after consulting Nigel, but there are certainly others.

Only back now after extended stay in UK due to bereavement.

Regret to say that I am inundated with requests for advice so it is difficult to reply to people quickly. Each individual case is quite different but as time goes on less alternatives may be available. Anyone offshore should get advice quickly if not from me or my colleagues at least from someone who is up to speed with what is happening.

Reliable information is that the prposed changes may be implemented BEFORE the end of this year!
