Imho a theme park is needed in Algarve or tourists will go to other places - think everyone knows that Dubai is taking a lot of tourism and they are expanding all the time.. even with theme parks.
My only concern is that the theme park would be shut over the winter period and that in my opinion would make it a waste of money.
Surely a theme park would be ideal in the winter months in Algarve...especially for those with families. I know Algarve is having plenty of rain at the moment but if Blackpool stays open all year round, then Algarve can too. If the Portuguese locals can gain employment from a theme park and there is demand for one, and preservation of local wildlife etc., all the usual planning checks legally satisfied then it should go ahead. The land used for a theme park could prevent yet another golfing/villa complex being built. Swings and roundabouts

We might not like land covered in concrete,putting greens etc. but Portugal needs to boost their economy for the sake of its own citizens.

If the only reason you travel to another country is to go to a theme park, then you're right....one country is as good as another.....build a better theme park, and they will come, hopefully.

Which citizens?
The displaced citizens who were forced out to make way for all the concrete and putting greens?

Will the money go pay for relocating them?

What are they to do when they get there?

well you ask how euro disney is doing...I know all too well....18 years ago iI paid 1500 euros for shares ..now they are worth 7 euros....in all those years I have never had a dividend..but have been asked to stump up extra cash to get them over a hump as soon their would be a pot of gold...now they are to delist from the london stock exchange...and for those whose shares are worth less than dealing costs they will be lumped together and given to some charity for the presevation of french monuments!

now im wondering where does all the money go...im told that it is the most visited theme park in europe...seems to me the only ones taken for a ride have been the shareholders

Ah, but if your shares had increased by a similar percentage to your losses, how much would you have donated to charity?

I was told by a friend of mine that if you're going to buy shares, make sure you use money you are happy to part with and never see again. Sounds like good advice.

yes well I dont n mind parting with money if the firm had gone bust..eurodisney have not..in fact as they are the most visited theme park in europe so they must be earning mega money..so where does it all go????..not to shareholders of that I can assure you

yes graham when I was younger and less wise...and I think there is a difference between France which has more rain and a country like Portugal which is turning into a desert and cannot cope with the demands of things like gollf courses etc.

sorry both posting were me (martin)...now accounts..well there is a topic for discussion....seems today as I read that profit in a firms books is the opinion of an accountant.....we are all aware of the Parmalats..maxwell....the list is endless...firms so profitable until the smoke and mirrors are taken away ..then its a different story
