since friday night until this morning (sunday) we have had (according to my gauge) 4 inches of rain..needless to say we now have 4 leaks that we didnt know about before.....if anyone ever tells you that they have a villa in the algarve that doesnt leak...then best ring up for an ambulance and have them taken straight back to the local hospital

yes it is poetic justice..on the day of the prestige algarve golf world cup..its going to be pouring with rain.

Do you know how the total rainfall this autumn is going compared to how much rain is needed to refill the supplies?

It is, isn't it. Hundreds of millions watching it on television and seeing rain. That will really help the tourist industry in the region

I think the rain now will help the tourist industry........If the Algarve doesn't get any rain in the winter months all the golf courses will be dried up by the sumer ,people will stay away because their will be a water shortage and fires will rage out of control!!............and that will defiantly not help tourism in the Algarve.

Just been down to the village and back, and the conditions are awful, the main road past the entrance to quinta do paraiso is almost impassable. After all this they'll probably tell us that it is the wrong sort of rain

just checked the guage now (13.50) since 9 this morning another 2 inches....drove thru Algoz with its new river frontage property just now

a friend in Padene who has next to house dried up river bed...this morning its almost overflowing with water

wonder what silves is like..river always flood town there.

Average annual rainfall for the Algarve is about 400mm.So if Martin now says he has measured 6ins (150mm) since last Friday then we are nearly half way there in 3 days !!!

Hi Martin. Haven't ventured out of the house since Friday evening, so I've no idea what the town is like, but we have a couple of rivers flowing down our track opposite and all the fields are flooded around me. I just hope the car makes it down the track ok as it gets rutted on the best of days. The house has also been struck by lightening a couple of times and keeps sparking out the electrics and my internet connection. That's the problem with being on top of a hill. Despite all that, the rain IS good news!

yes the usual problem with thunder and lightning .unplug everything quick...would love to know what silves city centre and the barragem is like now with all the rain.....must try and look...will swim down later and see

The region enjoys an average of over 8 hours of sunshine per day, or 3,000 hours of sunshine annually. The period from the end of May until mid-September is dry, with only 6% of the annual rainfall occurring during that period. Most of the rainfall occurs between November and February. Went to Silves this afternoon. Was not too bad, although all the traffic lights had been knocked out. The river was brown and really flowing and a good bit higher than last week, although not in danger (yet) of bursting banks. Saw a lot of those sort of Cactus Pine Trees down and there was a tree down and blocking the road at Escondidinho's. There was a leak in the roof at Modelo's and the roads were pretty manky, but still quite passable. Rua dos Pescadores was flooded quite badly between the back road to Quinta do Paraiso and the Chemist. Its like being back in Scotland!
