General forum posting

I've just gone on to Chit Chat section which is for Registered Members only.........sorry if repeating myself yet again

But that section was specifically set up so that there was less risk of abuse etc. on the forum?

I was disgusted to see how Maddi has been treated overnight. Graham etc. has posted something which has caused a battle of wits, amendments overnight - and if I am to understand Nightrider this was done to prove a point?

No one therefore seems to know what has been going on.
Imho.. if Nightrider or anyone else wants to prove a point to another REGISTERED MEMBER who has got their back up then surely you should Pm each other and sort the issues between you out in private? If pm is useful for 'sensitive' advice.. then maybe it can be used for infighting too if you are of that nature to fight with people you have never met?

THE TONE OF A LOT OF POSTINGS BETWEEN MEMBERS IS VERY HOSTILE AT THE MOMENT - this is an observation and not an accusation.

Another observation is that Gambrinus has been away while the hostilities been taking place- are some members suffering withdrawal symptoms?

I think people are hostile towards each other in life Pammie and so why is here going to be any different? I just ignore a lot of stuff on here if I don't want to get involved and I suggest that is what you and others do if you don't like it. It is a bit like walking away from a fight outside a pub.

Personally it isn't my style to be deliberately antagonistic but hey we're all different and there are some on here that do seem to enjoy that, as well as having to have the last word or one-upmanship. If it is about a topic very dear to my heart and something I am passionate about then I will speak my mind and I did have a "go" at someone for being patronising to me once, but a lot of these arguments seem to me to be started because of various people trying to have intellectual superiority over one another and other nonsense. I think there must be a few people who use this forum because they are frustrated and angry about life in general and others, who just like to cause a bit of trouble. Maybe in life they feel inadequate and the forum is a way of feeling good about themselves. Yikes, now I am psycho analysing people on here...now look what you've all made me do.

I have met many members of these forums and I think with the exception of one person, I have liked them all. The person I didn't really "gel" with shall we say, writes exactly as they came across in person funnily enough. But we are not going to get on with everybody in life are we?

We could all do with "turning the other cheek" a bit more. I loved one of Ellie's quotes for her signature. The best thing you can do is best nice to your enemies and that will irritate the hell out of them.

You know the problem with the British too? We love sarcasm. Myself included. But it can get us into problems sometimes. Ok enough super analysing the forum and its members and guests.

I do not wish to dwell on this matter any longer, but wish to merely say that I do understand your comments as I do others on the forum and have only myself to blame for deleting my post to Maddi and therefore, everybody only grasping one side of the full picture. Anway, if your interested please read the posting I have just put in Chit Chat.

That isn't the question your poll asked, so let me start with the poll question.

Yes, and 60% of those who responded (including myself) agree.
This section should be for info only.

As for your second question:

No.

Why should they have to put forth the time and effort involved?
If they want to delete "Guest's" post, that's their choice, but why should they have to fool with Members?

Members simply should not post in the General section unless they have relevant information to pass on.

However, if self-restraint doesn't work, and Members need some authority figure to stop stop them from chit-chating. ...I have a jim dandy way for the Mods to nip it in the bud when Members start Chit-Chatting in the General section.

Dear Mods,
the situation you have here reminds me of house training a kitten.
You can run around cleaning up cat poop for the rest of your life, or you can litter train the dear little kitty.

If the dear little kitty poops outside the litter box, you rub it's little nose in it, give it a light swat on it's tush and set it down firmly in the litter box.

As for Members chit -chatting in the General section, ban them from posting anywhere on the forum for Two (2) days, and post why they can't post.

Do that every time they chit-chat in the General section, and I doubt that there will be any more problems.

I personally have been guilty on Chit Chat on The General Forum...and one Guest correctly pointing this out over a weekend...... and I apologised to the Guest together with stating that hopefully the moderator would move it to Chit Chat on Monday and this was carried out.....so who am I to make comment on others postings...

If a guest needs information and it is in my scope to answer than I do...as does other members and guests etc..and if a member wishes to join in other matters in Chit Chat then of course like I did must of course become a registered member....full stop...so I agree with Cowboy and Avvie.

So lets take a little look at what's actually on the General Forum at this precise moment.....and I am not going to point the finger at anyone...but imho there are 8 postings that are or very close to boarding on Chit Chat!

How many can anyone else see

......unless anyone else disagree's ,I think it would be kinder to just refer to the actual number(s) rather than actually pin pointing anyone's actual posting.

Well, I don't think there's much wrong with occasional and light hearted banter. Even within a serious or semi serious topic like this one.

While I am happy to skim thru it all, reading what I want, and scrolling past that which is uninteresting, I wonder what its like for newcomers and those who visit the forum in anticipation of their annual holiday. When genuine questions are answered with an extended and often inter-personal chit chat - or worse still (and I have seen this) a barrage of abuse against the poorly worded new guest poster, it must be very unpleasant, intimidating and off-putting for the newbies.

So to all regular and prolific posters, I make this little plea:

Think about the newbies as you post your banter (particularly on here or on any other non chit-chat area) and keep it in proportion. Once one or two regulars or even guests have had a side joke, leave it be and don't pollute an area of cvo.com that may be of interest to newcomers who don't know us all, and are perhaps less confident and maybe are only interested in simple answers to simple questions.

Thats why we have a chit chat area, where frankly, I think that within the forum "rules" anything goes.
