CAR INSURANCE

Post by Homme Poco »

Bom dia,
We have just finished getting our car matriculated, actually got the plates this morning.
It took along time and we were under investigation by the Customs for a month (undercover, can you beleive it???).
Anyway ,the question is,has anybody managed to locate a reasonable insurance company.
The usual ones don´t seem very competetive,ie,Medal(Even with the AFPOP "discount") or David Hills
Thanks in advance.

HP. We have 4-wheelers and with AFPOP/MEDAL. We were with James Player in Almancil.....and changed because at the time we got a better deal with the above. We have searched around but to date with no luck to get cover any cheaper.....so lets see if anyone else posts on this very subject...like you we would be interested.

Medal were the most expensive! ,next David Hills, then the cheapest to date was from Rui Duarte-Seguros at Parchal Tel 282414725.
But they all seemed expensive compared to UK companies .
The main difference being the third party liability,
Medal TPL 50,000,000.00
Rui Darte-Seguros "Responsabilidade Civil" (Is that TPL) !,000,000.00.
Is there alaw regarding this,do you know??
Icould PM you the figures if they would help.

OK Telesguro is as close as Portugal gets to Esure. You can get a quote on line if you fancy your Portuguese or ring the number. They usually have an English speaker to hand.

Hi Guest,

Does the above mentioned cover you if you are permanently in Portugal i.e. a resident and driving a Registered Portuguese Car purchased here!

I will try and contact Saga as well.

Many Thanks for your posting.

Kind Regards
Nightrider :)

I suspect the Saga cover is the minimum required by EU which is the equivalent of UK Third Party. It does not include fire and theft or any damage to your car.

It is worth remembering that most Portuguese car insurance includes help for mechanical breakdown so if it seems more expensive remember you are saving the equvalent of AA/RAC subs

Hello NR
Got a quote from MW's link, about half the cost quoted by Medal and included the 50,000,000.00 third party liability.
Think I may go back to Parchal,as they were similar,to see if they can match it.
Would rather deal with local people,face-to-face.!!
Anyway wouldn't be elligible for SAGA :P :P :P
How about you ??
