3 inches
3 inches
since mid-day wednesday till now (8.15am thursday) we have had 3 inches of rain..outside we have a new lake.!
for those who would like to keep a record....a suggestion for an DIY rain guage was as follows.take a 1 litre water bottle..cut end off..invert into cut end...fill botTom of bottle until a constant line is achieved...mark and use that mark to measure each day rain.

I am not surprised it was 3" Martin. Excellent isn't it? Just have to hope it continues, so as to fill up those lakes and reservoirs. It was absolutley chucking it down most of the night and a bolt of lightening hit the house and tripped everything out. When it rains in Portugal, it really does rain.

You're definitely back on track Thdblt
Ive been talking to someone about 'worms' and how, although being a gardener I don't like them
!
Out of interest--d'you get/see many worms after the heavy rainfall there? Im trying to think back and can't recall having seen that many and of course they are important to good fertile soil?
Daft question probably but I just wondered?
Hope you get 'muito chuva' for that parched soil there
ellie
p.s. never had a rain gauge..might try Martin's idea with a lemonade bottle!
