Anyone using a Mac computer out there?

Hi, I’ve been frequenting this web site for years now and enjoy keeping an eye on the web cam, the problem is since switching over to a Mac from a PC I’ve been unable to view the web cam. If anyone else out there uses a Mac could you please tell me if you can see the web cam image using safari?

Yes, I have an Applemac laptop (Powerbook G4) and use Safari and I can see the webcam perfectly.

Ah!!! well it must be some settings on my Mac then, I can see it perfectly using Firefox, IE & Dreamweaver but it just wont show up in Safari? I thought it was a Safari problem but obviously not.

It seems your lucky

other Mac users are unable to view the webcam also.

It's strange, are you using the latest version (2.0.1). when I (and the other Mac users) visit the webcam page all but the camera's image load??

Well then I must be lucky I guess, because I can definitely see the webcam. Hmmm...I did look at the link but to be honest I am not that au fait with the tech side of Macs yet. I had a Mac ages ago in the UK and really liked it but have since only had PC's. I then decided this spring 2005 to get my friend to bring me over a new Mac laptop (PowerBook G4) from the UK. A nice...but rather expensive treat for myself! I have just had a look on "about safari" and it states that it is: 1.2.4 (v125.12) 2004??? Does that mean anything to you, as it would seem that I don't have the latest version of Safari???

Well to be honest I'm a new mac user so it's all new to me but the only thing I can think of is that something has changed from your version of Safari to mine. I've now downloaded the Firefox browser so I can keep an eye on the square using that

Hi Digs,

I'd love to tell you something really intelligent as to why I decided to go back to using a Mac...but I can't. I think I just felt like a change and didn't want to lose touch with how to operate one after so many years on a PC. A lot of my arty mates in the UK use them and swear by them. At the risk of tempting fate here, I find you rarely get any problems with them and apparently viruses find it harder to infiltrate Macs.

Anyhow, for something much more intelligent, I found the link below, where someone is putting forward their reasons for choosing a Mac over a PC and of course one mustn't forget they do look rather sexy.

And yep...shallow I know...but if you can't make your mind up, then sorry but sex appeal has to count and that sleek, smooth, shiney silver look just did it for me...well a girl has got to have some pleasures in life.

I am sure you'll love GarageBand on the Mac too.

Reasons for not getting a Mac.
many of them can't view a web cam
they cost an outrageous amount of money
so does software
hardware replacements are exorbitant
there is nothing at all you can do on a mac that you can't do on a pc
the main reason why there are few if any mac virii is because nobody uses the things, I wonder why
they are not quite a perfect as mac enthusiasts claim
did I mention the price
if you aren't careful you might turn into one of those mac snobs

Hi Digger,

In our household we have a laptop Apple Mac (G4) Power Book.
A Asus laptop (Windows XP Portuguese) A6.
A Vobis High Screen Desktop.
All the above machines each have their merits.
In so far as the Apple Mac it has 3yrs guarantee. The Asus 2yrs.
Each machine of course has to be judge by it's resepective capabilities.
The AppleMac is a very good machine, but costs £1,300.00 plus.
The Asus was 1200 Euros more or less.
I personally prefer the Asus/Windows.
Guest comments on the Apple Mac somewhat misguided.

many of them can't view a web cam = Mac's can view ANY webcam this thread is about the Safari browser having trouble viewing this particular cam NOT the Mac (just use another FREE browser).

so does software = They cost a bit more than a PC but you get what you pay for... It has the most stable, best looking and most advanced OS than anything ever seen before. Software prices are no different than PC (you can still use P2P for software anyway!)

Well I really like using a Mac again but each to their own. I am lucky to also have the use of a couple of pc's so if I couldn't see any webcams, which I don't seem to have had a problem with so far, I can use them. Anyway, not being able to see a webcam isn't a big deal for me personally. I am able to do everything I need on one. I have installed word:mac too, as well as Appleworks, so I can word process interchangeably on the Mac and our pc's. My only complaint with the Mac laptop, is that the battery doesn't last half as long as our pc.

I wouldn't consider myself a mac snob...yet...but you never know it could happen.

I think the design is cool and the graphics are fantastic but more importantly I find the laptop a pleasure to use. The keyboard is a dream. For me it has been money well spent and I don't regret buying one for a second but for others...I don't know.
