Vale do Milho

Am considering renting villa next year in Vale do Milho. Anyone ever been there? Comments appreciated.

Urbanization of villas and townhouses around a 9-hole golf course ranging in age from 20 years to brand new. Can you narrow it down: i.e. is it Vale do Milho itself or the newer urbanizations Golfemar, Pedra Grande?

Vale do Milho has a clube house, is about 2,5 kms from Carvoeiro, 3,5 kms from Intermarché, closest Restaurants are Julios by Pedra Grande and Rest. Vale do Milho round the rear entrance. Supermarket Alisuper just down the road at Rocha Brava, nearest beach is the "mutilated" Centeanes beach.

We stayed in a detatched villa with private pool on Vale do Milho a couple of years ago. The villas are very nice, on quite big plots.

You do really need a car if you stay there, there are a few restaurants within walking distance eg Julios, Rochamar, Jardim do Farol, but I think it is too far to walk to the village. It is quite a steep hill up from the village and not many pavements.

Wow! Fast replies!! The villa we are looking at renting is called Casa Oceana, Vale do Milho. How far is the walk to the town? Would we need to hire a car?

I don´t know Casa Oceana. Does it come with a house/lote number?

Car hire is advisable given the distances to town and shopping facilities. Besides that, Carvoeiro has a lot of steep hills

Yes, you will definitely need a car, unless you plan to laze by the pool most of the day. The local supermarket at Roche Brava is very basic.

Taxis are cheap- I think the last time we used one in was 5 euros from the centre of cvo

We have been renting villas at Val do Milgo for the last 10 years. Dont know Casa Oceana, but everyone weve had has been superb. As an added bonus it is quiet at night.

Julios is the best restaurant - 2 mins away- fairly pricy but very good food

Maybe someone could recommend a good place for a 3 bedroom villa with pool? We are looking for one for three weeks from 19th June, 2004 to 10th July, 2004.

Areias dos Moinhos might be a better location, nearer the town and more walkable, can't recommend a particular villa - maybe someone else can....

I am sure you have done this Molly, but if you use the search facility on the rentals page of this site, you can specify distance from town and the beach, very handy if you want to be sure of getting something within walking distance.

There are lots of very steep hills in Carvoeiro, one which is affectionately known as "Cardiac Hill", so if you do have any members of your party with walking difficulties then a hire car is imperative.

Hi Molly,Maddis right, ADM would be a better choice and check the rentals. If you are offered a villa there, chek the plot number and see where it is on the maps page under ADM and Vale de Milo. we have a villa on ADM that's about 12-15min into the village but unfortunatly it's booked for that period. I will be staying at Casa Oceana from 6th - 20th September this year, along with 5 other adults and a toddler. It's our first time to CVO and we picked it from a website. We have cars hired for our 2nd week, so we plan to laze around for the 1st week. It looks really nice, but I'm a bit worried about the distance to the town. Hopefully the walk there won't be too bad as I believe it's down hill.

It's quite a way, particularly if you have a toddler with you. It is downhill to get to Carvoeiro, but a steep hill coming back, you would probably be better off getting taxis to and from the village.

Thanks for the instant reply! Our villa has a phone, but it only takes incoming calls, so would it be acceptable to ask a restaurant to call us a taxi, or are there payphones around that we could use to save us the walk to town? I guess it will be easy enough to get a taxi back.

I can't wait another 5 weeks!

Defintely would recommend having a car here, the walk to the small supermarket is quite tiring, especially it its sunny. We stayed there last year and thought it was essential, especially with a little one, you never know what you might need. Lovely villas and area though !
